Nothing says progress like being eliminated from the playoffs in November. Belichick once said "the NFL season doesn't start until after Thanksgiving". I am sure Monti took that pearl from when he was in New England but failed to understand you have to win enough games before Thanksgiving to be able to start after it. Anyways, here are snap counts and then some thoughts.

On offense.

1 - A rare competitive game highlighted the return of 12 personnel. Higgins got 41%.

2 - Adams filled in for IR Will and played every snap. Looked decent in the run game. Can't stay connected in pass blocking.

3 - Weaver seems to have surpassed Dortch. Weaver played 49% while Dortch played 33%. Maybe it is just because MHJ was in and out with his heel.

On defense.

1 - As K9 pointed out, Ojulari was the only edge to play less than 46% of snaps. Clearly EDGE 5. However, BJ did play 74% of special teams snaps. Monti's full galaxy brain plan of taking blokcing TEs in round 3 and special teams linebackers in round 2 is paying off.

2 - DRob and CC paced the DL room. Stills and Dalvin after that.

3 - ADG played 57% of defensive snaps and was awful. Great job with that signing.

4 - Nichols showed up and played 26% of snaps. The same amount as Mustipher who gets paid like 7 mil less.

I know people love Nick Rallis here but you have to wonder about any game plan that starts with having Cody Simon on the field for 100% of the snaps.
Simon 100%, ADG 57%, Denzel Burke 62%, Dante Stills 43%, and PJ Mustipher 26% are borderline crimes but also hallmarks of teams eliminated from the playoffs before November ends.

This is why the quibbling with White was so confusing. The alternative is this dreck. Monti took Clayton Tune instead of Henry To'o To'o.

Owen Pappoe was drafted 168 and has started 2 games. SF drafted Dee Winters 216 in the same draft and he has started 23 games.

The shorter conversation is what decisions has Monti gotten right vs the ones he has gotten wrong.

Monti is clearly a problem. The state of the roster after three offseasons, even after accounting for injuries, isnt acceptable.

the team will be starting over this offseason - arguably better than three years ago, but not much better when accounting for the QB situation.

I honestly didn't know that BJ was on the field.

In related news, our OLBs aside from Sweat have accounted for a total of 4 sacks this year. The entire team aside from Sweat and CC have combined for 7.5.
The staff seems to struggle with the develop part of the draft and develop strategy. In all seriousness, the absence of details is so shocking. Robert Salah has gotten more out of the SF 49ers mash unit defense in one season than Gannon has gotten out of his in 3. If the team was just more buttoned up all around, I could maybe buy the injury/Kyler/Petzing excuses as the problem.

There is no plan, no long term strategy, no signs of growth...just stagnation and apathy all around. We brought in a new regime to catch up with the rest of the division, and we're miles behind.

Let's give these guys another 3 years though!

Keeping games close (not really) with the keep it close offense and keep it close defense.

YEah I watched the condensed replay so it's sped up(30 minutes) but what I see with Simon is still the same, hitting the wrong gap repeatedly and making tackles downfield. He's getting better, I do think he has a role in the NFL but the dropoff from Mack Wilson to him has been pretty big.

We need another LB to go with Wilson to replace ADG and I don't think so far Simon has taken that role

Nichols runs like Forrest Gump before he got the braces off. If he's healthy it's scary how slow he is

Whats the other option, especially since he's the back up green dot to Wilson?

The only Monti draft picks to lead the team in any categories are DTD and Burke in INTs with 2 apiece and Burke in PDs with 7. That isn't a great sign for a GM whose been here for 3 offseasons.

ADG can wear the green dot
He is the backup green dot with Wilson out.
Or Budda or Jalen. Theres nothing magical about having a speaker in your helmet.

Didn't Budda have it under Kliff? Its odd that most all teams use a LB now. It just seems to be, for better or worse, that LBs are the green dot players now. I'm with you, I'd refer to have Budda wear it, but it appears they see something in Simon long term to have him wearing it now.

The D has had it's moments, and I honestly think the DL and and EDGE groups are quite a bit better vs 2024.

But with Mack W out, the ILB group has been exposed.

And there's hope for the defensive backfield with Johnson and GWill but I'm ready for new blood at S.

One cool stat for the D:

We're 7th in the league in forced turnovers. That's pretty good! So good in fact that we really should be better than 3-8.
