2 weeks ago we were old and fubar'd for 6 years.

This is really stunning
Not much has changed really.

We got a guy in Green that has a bad contract and has not really fulfilled his potential.
Mark Williams who has missed 60% of the games he is eligible for and
3 draft picks who all might suck.

It's fun to imagine the best case scenerio - but at this point that's all it is, your imagination.

I'm fine with what they did with the draft. It's all a shot in the dark at the end of the day, but that comes with the territory.

The problem is (and has been for the better part of the last 20 years) is the Suns have blown off the draft so much. During the D'Antoni era, when he discarded it entirely, then after he was gone, Sarver refused to pay for scouting and we ended up with years of dud picks. Then on to James Jones throwing away years of draft picks because he didn't want to bother with the draft either.

Now we are forced to try and play catch up with a minimum of capital. What they did this year is really what they should have been doing since JC left, and should be doing into the foreseeable future... and that's going to be harder because Jones threw so many of our drafts away in stupid trades. Colangelo's emphasis on scouting and drafting is precisely what kept the franchise so successful for most of the 30+ years he ran the team.

Thank god we have a G League team in town. This draft wouldn't be possible without having a place we can develop the guys.

Moving the Suns games to local broadcast and establishing a G League team have been Ishbia's best moves.

Also...

We got the leading scorer on a top playoff team who is 23.

The concerns at player health is legit but we are 4 deep at that position.

We drafted high character kids that I can't wait to cheer for. I despised last year's team to the point it even impacted my opinion of Devin.

You can glass half empty anything if that's your thing

I can't remember who said it, but he's got an NBA level skill already in shooting, which will always be needed. Hopefully he can shore up enough of the rest of his game where he's not just a one-dimensional player.

He's a lot like Cam Johnson, me thinks, but an inch or two shorter. Lots of the same concerns when Cam came out, but he turned into a quality NBA player. To get a guy like that at 41 is value, IMO.

Along those lines, I was 100% in the "we will siuck for 6 years so trade Booker" camp.

Now I am like in the 50% trade Booker camp. Before they had to cash that in by desperation.

Now we have options. We don't have to trade Booker but we can if he asks for it or an offer presents itself. We're back in the drivers seat and it was much quicker than anticipated. There's more options present now than 2 weeks ago, which I didn't think possible.

we're still.gonna suck next year - but hopefully the suck comes with purpose - hopefully it comes with a few bright spots maybe even spurts - thing about defense is you can teach it but you can't instill it - it'll be fun to watch these youngins get beat night in night out if we know it's a process and watch them progress

I’ve been so excited by so many drafts only to be eventually let down that I don’t make expectations anymore. I think there’s a good chance that both are frontcourt and backcourt are total disasters unless Ott is better than we think.

I don't think you can look at what we did in the draft without Ott. Supposedly has a record of success developing NBA talent.

"Jordan Ott’s experience coaching the frontcourt duo of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in Cleveland could come into play after the Phoenix Suns acquired Duke center Khaman Maluach in the 2025 NBA Draft."

"Mobley started to realize his defensive potential in 2024-25, Ott’s only season with the Cavaliers, making First Team All-Defense for the first time in his career. Allen was among the others receiving votes for the honor."

Also: "“Everybody knows Jordan Ott was huge when it came to player development,” Cleveland.com reporter Chris Fedor explained. “The Phoenix Suns pointed that out in their press release when they hired Jordan, and the work that he did with Evan Mobley.”

Okay, Suns, do your thing.

Point guard Ryan Nembhard goes undrafted.

Let's bring him to Phoenix.
