I'm not saying he will for sure just that apparently several NFL teams were considering him with that in mind. Apparently he has really bad technique for CB's, gambles too much and gets fooled easily on double moves. THe irony one of his biggest weaknesses in college was lack of INT's, only 4 in his career.
word im thinking special teams if anything

Without pulling flypoop out of the pepper, he is a good choice with a great chance to improve the roster overall. Proficient in the spotlight, on an island on huge college stage. Fast enough, smart enough, nasty enough - so he gambles a bit…. So do I!

With the Cards down a CB and considering they play a lot of zone, he has a real chance to make the roster. It’s enhanced by his usefulness on special teams.

It was easy to see that Burke was hot & Cold in college.
But if he was talentless he never would have made the roster at Ohio State.
This ain't New Mexico state we're talking about.
Lot of meh Ohio St corners in the NFL since Urban Meyer left so it’s hard to say. Now if we’re talking wideouts…

Making it to the NFL at all is a huge deal. This is a weird take.
While I agree with you in both fact and premise...
I would bet there are more cornerbacks drafted into the NFL than any other position....the league seems to take the shotgun approach after the first couple rounds.

Yes but this is probably true across the NCAA also. Not sure what the point is.

That is hardly a surprise.

The way NFL is played at the moment you need 3 starters. It’s the biggest room on basicly every team, because you need rotation and back-ups behind that.

CB is the position where age traditionally has the biggest impact. CB production usuallly drops off the cliff after 30

Oh I know...dont worry dude we have all become quite accustomed to your lack of understanding.
But the concept is simple....with the numbers drafted, its more likely that a lesser talent gets a shot in the NFL as a corner than at other positions.

using some arbitrary imaginary rating system... lets say a team needs a WR, an edge, and a CB.... but when their pick comes around...all the guys on their board are rated at 55 out of 100...teams will view the edge and the wr as wasted picks, certain busts...but they will pick the corner, because he is fast, or looks to be a system fit, and they can coach him up...and with the passing volume in the league combined with the cap cost of a good corner...taking a risk on a cost controlled chance for corner is more palatable...and if a guy is weak in certain situations a good DC can mask those weaknesses with safety help over the top.

I liked Trey before he played a game. Luckily he was a late bloomer.

Stop stalking me. ;)
I save all the good comments in that thread for future use! Yours wasn't even near the top of the worst!

Burke will show whether he’s good enough or not.

this post makes no sense to me. Are you saying, all things being equal, teams are more likely to take a shot on a CB project?

I like Burke and was glad when we drafted him especially being a local guy. If he came out after his junior year he probably would have gone on the 2nd day. I'm not going to argue with any but being starter for Ohio State for four years shows he certainly has talent. I agree with Harry that he should make the roster and hope he surprises all of us and does well!!

yes, basically...because its a passing league, you need lots of them, and so many flame out...better to gamble on the cheap ones.
plus there are lots of reasons a CB can flame out and teaching technique can often get you a serviceable fourth corner... but all the technique in the world wont help a lineman that is weak or has bad balance...or an edge that just has zero get off

Yeah I figured he was probably the one guy who benefits the most from this injury. I wonder if we won't try and pickup a vet somehow

More than likely we go to camp and see how it works out and if we get any injuries. IMO. The options with camp cuts are basically about as good as the options out there now. Everyone has, and will have, warts.
