Every single one of them is a difference maker...they just ain't splashy.
They aren't. We have no pass rush. We didn't get a pass rush today. We didn't sign Big Johns today. We signed roster-filling starters. Which is fine, and good, when you have or are going to have Big Johns. Signing our DTs means we aren't drafting any Big Johns at that position.

Welp, here's how Barnwell has our acquisitions listed:

Nichols - backup likely to earn guaranteed money
Murphy Bunting -backup likely to earn roster spot
Jones - borderline starter/high end backup
Wilson - backup likely to earn guaranteed money

Building up the underbelly indeed.

I'd say Bunting and Jones are starters, but yeah.

He is 30 doesn’t fit the age range Monti is lookin for
I think that’s a mistake. Those guys we signed are all complementary pieces, but an actual pass rusher could lift the entire unit and if that were to happen, this team has a chance to be pretty good.

There’s no such thing as a three to four year rebuild. Bad teams, especially terrible teams record wise like ours, can and often do make a leap in year two and that sets the tone for the future. Incremental change just gives too small of a margin for error where you could be awful again. And then bad habits set in and buy in could start to be a problem.

Also, at 30, Hunter probably has two to three more good years, and his addition to the other guys immediately has the makeup of not just an okay D, but probably a pretty good one. Also, if you plant him there, then we don’t have to pray one of our draft picks can instantly step up and be the pass rusher this D desperately needs. It’s a way to jumpstart success and be able to plan for the future, IMO.

I think all of the players are starters.

Mack Wilson is an upgrade over Woods and Barnes. Nicholas probably starts right now and if he doesn't, that probably either means injury or something good happened.

Yes, better than bad does not equal good.

Wait, so you own a business and a great potential employee walks in and shows interest in working for your company...makes it clear he's available...but you decline to make him a job offer because you just think/have a gut feeling he's gonna stay with his current employer no matter what? That mentality will get you fired.
Uh, not when "you own a business!"

The good. Monti targeted defense. It appears the “ rotation” philosophy is not set in stone. I still am hoping we do more.
Is there a Wr available ( not Brown)?
Is there an OT available.
Is there a rb we should consider adding?
it kind of makes it obvious our draft targets.
