While this year is starting to close down, the 2019 free agency period could be a great haul.

From what everyone seems to say, we will have about $20 million available in FA money next summer. But there are opportunities to clear space.

1. Trade the picks. There will be an $8 to $10 million cap hold for those picks depending on when they fall.

2. Chriss ($4.1 million), Bender ($5.8 million), and Jackson ($7.1 million) will all be on team options. They can be released. I know that seems extreme, but if you need to do that in order to sign a top FA, the net is similar to a trade.

3. Stretch Knight. Knight will be owed $14.6 million next year. Stretching him could create another 9.7 million.

Anyone want to talk about potential targets?

I'm having trouble understanding why you would consider releasing Josh Jackson unless you think he might be a bust. He has great value on this salary.

Not advocating that, it is just technically possible. Just laying out all the options.

Pretty weak class which was another reason why I wanted the Booker extension now. Also wouldn’t mind taking on salary in a win now trade.

It may be an option but dang. I can't see the Suns ever waiving Jackson.

It’s actually considered a potentially GREAT FA class. I don’t see where he’s coming from with “weak” at all.

Unfortunately there are a ton of teams with potentially MORE cap space than us next year. Blew my mind when I read that.

I don't see Bledoe on that list for some reason. Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm just happy our early discussions for next season are focused around free agency and not the draft! I can't wait to consistently root for the Suns to win regular season games.

I thought it was weak based on what I remembered from seeing the list a few weeks back. After devilalum posted the list again I’m looking for a weaker word than weak. First off we aren’t realistic players for Kawhi and Klay so I’m not considering them as targets. Kemba is a rich man’s Bledsoe who will be getting a contract bigger than Conley’s current deal. Dinwiddie interests me a bit but we seem content on rolling with Knight and turning it over to Okobo. This team will be built thru the draft and trades. If people want to keep getting excited over free agency I won’t stop them.

It really does not matter how much more they have as long as we have the max money to get the FA we want. I would assume we are looking at one and at the most two pieces.

By the time we hit the fall of 2019, this league will look completely different.

Of that list I am only interested in a few players: Rubio (if his shot continues to develop), Walker, Collison, Teodosic (cheap), Russell, Rozier, Jones, Brogdon, McConnell.

Teodosic and Walker are probably obtainable now.

I don't agree fully but unless we're adding Kemba in a trade now I'm not big on shelling out the money he'd likely receive to sign him in FA. He'll command close to the max and he'll be 30. He's a score first PG that hasn't helped his team win consistently, even in the East. A player like that isn't worth $20 million a year. Why not keep Knight then? I'd rather gut out another year with him and have him off the books entirely instead of stretching his remaining salary so we can replace him with an older version of the player he is.

There are some interesting young targets out there like Dinwiddie and Tyus Jones but we'll see what happens. Starting PG wasn't going to be filled by this years Free Agency crop but next year there's a lot more options.
