Grant Cohn is one of my least favorite reporters that covers the SF 49ers, but Cohn does bring up some pretty good questions about the up coming season.

1. Is Jim Tomsula a competent head coach?

He’s never even been a coordinator in the NFL. He was an interim head coach for one game at the end of the 2010 season, and he was a head coach in NFL Europe for one season in 2006 — that’s his complete head-coaching track record. Will he have a message that resonates with the 49ers for an entire season? Can he help the Niners rebound after losing so many leaders this offseason? If the team gets off to a rocky start (as it often did under previous head coach Jim Harbaugh), can Tomsula rally the team, or will the players simply tune him out?

Mike Holmgren would have been an interesting coach, but yeah he seems a little old. This would have been the second old coach that the 49ers were interested in this past offseason. Mike Shanahan being the other coaching candidate.

49ers put RB Carlos Hyde on active roster
The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they have removed second-year running back Carlos Hyde from the active/non-football injury list and placed him on the active roster, a day after putting him on the NFI with an undisclosed injury.

The move clears the way for Hyde, expected to become the Niners' lead back with franchise all-time leading rusher Frank Gore gone via free agency, to begin training camp with the rest of the team in Saturday's initial practice at Levi's Stadium.

Niners' Brooks Appears Poised for Big Season
After a troubled 2014 campaign, outside linebacker is in shape and motivated to again be an impact player
As Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee noted, Brooks batted down a pass from Colin Kaepernick on Sunday, then looked explosive and athletic by putting a spin move on offensive tackle Erik Pears in one-on-one pass rushing drills.
“At one point this offseason, it seemed as if the 49ers would unload hefty Brooks and his hefty contract,” wrote Barrows. “Now he seems poised for a big year.”

Reports: 49ers release Cook
The 49ers will reportedly have an open roster spot to fill with Wednesday's release of cornerback Chris Cook.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The San Francisco 49ers have told cornerback Chris Cook he will be released Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
Cook, 28, appeared in six games for San Francisco in 2014 before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury that required surgery. He was re-signed in the offseason to a one-year deal.
