Summer league starts in a couple of weeks. Streaming is $15.

July 13th: Portland

July 15th: Minnesota

July 16th: Memphis

After those games there is a tournament so the Suns will have 2+ more games. A tournament seems like a really stupid idea, but that is how it works this year.

Tournament just adds more fuel to
D leaguers. I'm for it, might show who wants to step up. I like it.

It's unfortunate that Len won't be available, but I'm looking forward to seeing a backcourt of Marshall and Goodwin.

I'm excited to see how Goodwin plays.

I hope we sign Seth Curry, Steph's little brother. Seth may be the best shooter in the draft and could be used coming off the bench.

Knowing how much the Suns love brothers, this is a match made in heaven :p

Any word on the roster yet? I know the Kings have released the list of their squad. Any word?

seriously I don't understand why summer league is not at least 10 games..

Hey, look at this. We're in agreement.

The earth may crack in half at any moment.

Rookies need to play -- a lot. I don't know how you assess a kid on a few games. I love the tournament idea. That brings out better basketball.

I agree. I also think they should get at least a week of training as well instead of the 2 days they currently get. I'm guessing there are limits in the CBA restricting how much time they can spend, but it seems odd since it's voluntary.

I would think that would have to be agreed upon in the CBA. I wish more teams would play in both summer leagues.

Turnovers aside Michael Carter-Williams looks pretty good. 13 Points in 14 minutes and surprisingly quick.

It seems the story of MCW destroying McCollum in the workout was true, MCW would have been a good pick too.

Olynyk and Oladipo looking excellent as well...

so much for this "weak" draft..

Really? Is this your first summer league experience? There have been a lot of mega superstar can't miss top of the world players in summer league that fizzled on the NBA stage. I think it's a bit early to start lauding this group.

No it is not and that is exactly why, usually you don't have every rookie stand out like this in the games.

Summer league stats are about as meaningful as corn in my poop.

Its nice these young guys get a chance to work on their games with pro coaches in systems their teams will be attempting to employ, but the results the put up are totally useless for projecting their future play.

No they are not, summer league stats are good indicator for NBA success. Of course there is no 100% accuracy but it is still a very good indicator.

Especially guys that struggle in summer league rarely make an impact in the NBA season.

Last year's co-mvps: Lillard and... Josh Selby.

2010 leaders: John Wall, Sam Young, Javale McGee, Reggie Williams

Your 2009 Summer League stars... Anthony Morrow, Anthony Randolph, Nick Young, Eric Gordon and Adam Morrison.

The 2008 scoring champions (this crop is especially funny): Bayless, Donte Green, Quincy Douby, Alando Tucker, Anthony Randolph

Half those names didnt make it past their second season, most never never cracked regular rotations.

I maintain, the statistical results of the NBA summer league are 100% useless. Especially to look at the first day of games and say "so much for a weak draft".

Summer league is a good time to look at players in regard to potential, how they play the game and respond to coaching. Looking at stats only, will get you in trouble. Good players generally put up good stats that will translate to the NBA, however, not so good players will put up good stats as well at this level of competition. There is a fine line. Also it is interesting to see how draft choices match up against each other. Even summer league could not make Kendall Marshall look good.

Unfortunately, your examples do little to disprove a link between summer league and NBA success unless you can find a similar ratio of players who do poorly in summer league and well in the NBA.

We already know that all players who excel in summer league will not necessarily excel in the NBA. We also expect that players who do not excel in summer league have an even smaller chance of NBA success.

EDIT: Here's an old article that seems to discuss my point, but it's behind a paywall:

LOL

Thanks for proving my point that almost all of those "summer league" stars have gone on to have productive NBA careers.

lol, yeah, watch out NBA, Quicny Douby, Alondo Tucker, Adam Morrison, Josh Selby and more are coming to get you.

TWO of that entire list are starters in this league and tons of them are not even in the league right now.

But yeah, it sure proved your point. lol

Gordon, Wall, Lillard = TWO

I see, if you don't think that there is strong correlation between summer league success and NBA success I am not even going to try and argue because it will be pointless to convince you (surprise).

Oh, I forgot about Gordon, probably because he only plays 10 games a year. My mistake.

So... 3 guys, out of the last 4 summer leagues of statistical leaders, went on to become regular starters... and much of the rest cant even crack a rotation and several are not in the league. When it projects NBA success at a less than 25% rate... I dont view it as a strong indicator.

I guess this will just have to be a difference of opinion. Maybe by corn/poop analogy was too harsh. I will instead give it the benefit of a wet fart.
