KU definitely looks to be the team to beat depending on how many kids come back and who they wind up with in recruiting now that Kentucky and Memphis are re-opening a ton of kids.

I think UCLA is too high and I'm also thinking UNC is way too high? Even Roy Williams admitted that Lawson, Ellington and Green all would have stayed in the draft last year with a top 20 guarantee. Green is a senior so he's gone, Ellington and Lawson are top 20 so they're gone(unless Lawson gets arrested again). They lose Hansbrough. I know they have a touted recruiting class and I love John Henson, but I don't see Strickland as being good enough to step in and completely replace Ellington. The PG position will be up to Larry Drew Jr who's talented but not great. And I'm not expecting much of anything from the Wear twins I think they're highly overrated. They have a kid from Memphis signed too I don't know anything about him.

If they somehow get John Wall then yeah I could see him, Henson and Strickland with the returning guys making them pretty good.

I've read Ed Davis has already said he's staying but you never know, in a weak draft he's the top rated NBA prospect on that roster he could easily change his mind when he sees how much money that is.

Not sure on Texas either the key to their season is will Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton qualify?

This poll is meaningless until the middle of June when all the uncommitted guys have chosen their schools and the deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft has come and gone.

So Kansas announced yesterday that 2 kids were transferring out a senior to be a soph to be. Does this mean Kansas is expecting to pick up a couple more recruits now that UK and Memphis have opened things up for several kids again?

It means

1) We're expected to keep both Collins and Aldrich

2) We're expected to pick up Xavier Henry (plus CJ Henry for free) or Lance Stephenson.

it will hurt, but we will still be good next year. Transfers and freshman will lead the team.

Yeah....who? Last PG Syracuse recruited was Flynn. All you have to do is look at Texas to see a team without a PG and they have a better front court than the 'Cuse.

Attica and Sing Sing have inexhaustible supplies of criminals on work-release for Cuse to draw from every year. They never even have to recruit out of state.

Lots more Jonny Flynns available. Boeheim might even be able to get one of Jonny's homeboys.

yea, I'm not worried. I wanted Flynn back just cause I love to watch him play and I think the NBA sucks. But syracuse will be alright. we have proven we can transition from melo, gmac, demetrius nichols, warrick. we can fill holes.

Unless Boeheim retires, then Syracuse goes 'poof'. Of course casual fans who doesn't know much about the program won't be bothered much either way. They just talk smack if the team ends up putting anything together.

Maybe Boeheim will bring his whole "expand the tournament" complaint back to life once Syracuse is again relegated to the NIT.

People (and I think even you) made the same argument for Lute and Arizona. Yet here we are more than two years after Lute coached his last game and Arizona just made the Sweet 16 and hired one of the best young coaches in the game who if his first week on the job is any indicator will have the program back fairly quickly.

It all depends on who Syracuse hires but I am skeptical should they decide to promote that career assistant from within. Other than Izzo has that ever worked?

Agreed - Syracuse, given it's history(which in reality, stretches further back than Arizona) and location (prime Northeastern recruiting area), will be a prime job once Boehim retires, just like UConn will be.

The problem is that as of now Syracuse has promised the job to one of Boeheim's career assistants. Syraciuse has clout in the college basketball world, but are in a similar boat to Arizona and UConn in that I don't think they can afford an extended absence of success. Like those programs if they have a 5-7 year swoon I'm guessing the Carrier Dome will be empty and donations will slow and it will become extremely difficult to bring in an elite guy. There's also the issue of not having anybody in the Boeheim coaching tree that would be serviceable much like Arizona had to face with Lute and UConn will face with Calhoun.

I don't think it will be too much of a problem though, because it has been known for a few years now that Hopkins is next in line. As long as Bernie Fine is still heading recruiting, we should be in good shape.

Yeah I did make the Lute argument. UofA has come along by the skin of their teeth to overcome that as well as it has so far. Even you were preaching doom and gloom just 3 weeks ago.

Well, wouldn't Jim Boeheim be the obvious answer?

Yeah, were it not for Sean Miller we'd be looking at Jim Boylen and a steady decline to the bottom of the Pac-10. Having the resources which Syracuse has to throw a bunch of money at the problem definitely makes the replacing a legend issue a bit easier. Of course that doesn't always mean it's a sure thing - see NC State with Sidney Lowe, Oklahoma State with Ford.

Well, wouldn't Jim Boeheim be the obvious answer?
Right, forgot about that. Mark Few would be another example.

Coach Jim Boeheim appears to believe Flynn, a sophomore 6-foot point guard who led the team with 17.4 points a game last season, is wavering on whether to leave school early. Flynn, however, told Syracuse.com that he was awaiting paperwork to sign with an agent, which would preclude him from returning to play with the Orange next season.
