Putting two alphas in the same room can often be a recipe for disaster. Whether it’s two world leaders, two political adversaries, or two ball-dominant players on the same team, it’s situation that’s begging for conflict. On the Dallas Cowboys it’s two alpha wide receivers that must be managed.
Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens are two of the best receivers in the NFL. They also play on the same team. With Pickens playing for a new contract and Lamb playing for his status, the stakes are high in that Cowboys receiver room. It’s a situation in which both players get along well, but one that is built on shaky ground given the zero-sum nature of the game (i.e. only one ball to go around).
Normally a situation such as this would be cause for great concern, but Dak Prescott’s presence as the $240 million man keeps things manageable. Prescott, 33, is the OG of the Cowboys' offense. He’s a leader in a way very few, if any, Cowboys players have been, and he’s empowered by the coaching staff to make the right decisions on the field.
Predictably, there will be games of feast and famine for both receivers in 2026. Offensive game plans and play-calling could dictate the opportunities each respective receiver gets week-to-week, but it will ultimately come down to Prescott and his real-time decision making to determine who gets the ball.
A less established quarterback might be the brunt of criticism. An under-targeted alpha can get disgruntled pretty quickly under these circumstances. Having a respected captain like Prescott tempers those emotions.
There’s a good chance the Cowboys defense will be lousy again in 2026. That may sound bad to fans but it’s good news to offensive players hoping for shootouts every week. These circumstances set up an ideal situation for two alpha receivers hoping to maximize their numbers this season.
At the end of the day, it’s all about Prescott entrenched as the offensive leader in the locker room and on the field. His stature is too high to allow mutiny. The occasional hissy-fit isn’t beyond the realm of possibility but even those will be tempered with Prescott’s presence. Not all teams could manage egos like this but the Cowboys are well equipped for difficult situations such as these.

I believe the Cowboys still don't know if George Pickens will show up for mandatory minicamp next week.
