A total of 19 Scioto Countians across six different Scioto County high schools will compete in the 2026 OHSAA Track and Field State Championship Meet from Thursday through Saturday, as Scioto County’s best take on those across the state realm in action that commences on Thursday, June 4 and runs through Saturday, June 6 for the Scioto County participants in the state meet.
Wheelersburg’s Kenyon Evans, Cashton Adkins, Ison Emnett, Hunter Lawson, Canaan Arthur, Braylon Rucker, Clark Weller and Logan Whitt and Portsmouth’s JJ Purcell represent Scioto County at the OHSAA Division III realm, Wheelersburg’s Ella Hochstetler, Minford’s Peyton Caudill and Marley Rhodes and West’s Keagan Salem will compete at the OHSAA Division IV realm, and Notre Dame’s Ryan Purcell and South Webster’s Braden Mantell, Liam Osborne, Aiden Rowland and Logan Mantle will rep Scioto County in OHSAA Division V competition.

Ella Hochstetler, Wheelersburg, seeded first in discus, first in shot put
The top throwing talent in the OHSAA Division IV realm in both discus and shot put, Wheelersburg’s Ella Hochstetler is in prime position to capture not only one, but two state championships this weekend when she participates in the OHSAA Division IV State Championship Meet in both events later this week.
Hochstetler advanced to the state meet as the OHSAA Division IV, Region 13 Champion in both discus and shot put. Her mark in discus is over 14 feet better than that of the next best thrower, and her mark in shot put is over two feet, six inches better than that of the next best thrower as well.
Hochstetler will compete in the discus on Thursday, June 4 at 4 p.m. and will throw in the shot put on Friday, June 5 at 9:30 a.m.
Kenyon Evans, Wheelersburg, seeded second in long jump, seeded eighth in high jump
Fellow Wheelersburg talent Kenyon Evans also ranks highly among his state competitors, and enters the state meet seeded second in the OHSAA Division III realm in the long jump and eighth in the high jump.
While seeded second in the long jump, Evans has the best personal best long jump of any state competitor in the event, as Evans has hit the 23-foot, eight-inch mark before in the event. The senior has also posted a six-foot, five-inch PB in the high jump.
Evans is scheduled to compete in the long jump on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and the high jump on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Wheelersburg boys 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 meter relays (Canaan Arthur, Braylon Rucker, Clark Weller, Logan Whitt)
Qualifying themselves for the state meet with fourth-place regional finishes in the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 meter relays, Wheelersburg’s Canaan Arthur, Braylon Rucker, Clark Weller and Logan Whitt posted times of 43.47 in the 4-by-100 and 1:29.86 in the 4-by-200 to qualify in both relay events.
The two relay squads will run in Friday’s 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 preliminaries first, competing at 10:42 a.m. in the 4-by-200 meter relay and 11 a.m. in the 4-by-100.
Cashton Adkins and Ison Emnett, Wheelersburg, discus (Adkins seeded fifth; Emnett 12th)
Leading the charge for Wheelersburg in boys discus, the Pirate duo of Cashton Adkins and Ison Emnett will look to cap off their senior seasons in grand fashion with strong performances at the OHSAA Division III State Meet.
Adkins and Emnett, who are ranked fifth and 12th heading into the state meet with their respective throws, both compete on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in discus.
Ison Emnett and Hunter Lawson, shot put (Emnett seeded first Lawson 18th)
Along with his 12th place ranking in discus, Emnett heads into the OHSAA Division III State Championship Meet in shot put as the state’s top thrower with a 57-foot, 11-inch mark, while Hunter Lawson also qualified for the event with a 49-foot, four-and-a-half inch throw of his own.
Emnett has thrown up to 61 feet, nine inches in the shot put and is the only thrower in the event with a personal best that exceeds 60 feet. Lawson, meanwhile, has thrown up to 55 feet, four-and-a-half inches.
Both competitors begin their journey toward a state title in shot put on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Peyton Caudill, Minford, 100 meter dash, second-fastest time in OHSAA Division IV Regional realm
Running a 10.69 at the OHSAA Division IV, Region 13 meet to easily win a regional championship in the event, Minford’s Peyton Caudill has an opportunity to capture a state championship in the 100 meters depending on his performance in a 100 meter dash event that looks to be up for grabs.
Caudill’s 10.69 was just two one-hundredths of a second behind Bluffton’s Kain Wright for the fastest OHSAA Division IV Regional time in the event across the state. Caudill has run as low as a 10.64 in the past.
The OHSAA Division IV preliminary race in the 100 meter dash begins on Thursday at 1:25 p.m.
Marley Rhodes, Minford, 400 meter dash
Qualifying for state in the girls 400 meter dash, Marley Rhodes obtained a third place finish at the OHSAA Division IV, Region 13 realm at Chillicothe High School, posting a 58.31 in the event to grab a state qualifying position.
Rhodes will run in the girls 400 meter dash preliminaries on Thursday at 2:05 p.m.
JJ Purcell, Portsmouth, 10th, 3,200 meter run; and Ryan Purcell, Notre Dame, 14th, 1,600 meter run
Competing in the 3,200 meter run, Portsmouth’s JJ Purcell sits 10th in the state realm in regards to time compared to the additional 3,200 meter qualifiers in the OHSAA Division III realm after running a 9:28.33. Purcell will run in the 3,200 meters on Friday at 12:10 p.m.
Ryan, who is JJ’s sister, will represent Notre Dame as a distance runner in the 1,600 meter run after posting a 5:12.51 to qualify as an at-large runner in the OHSAA Division V realm in that event.
Ryan will run at 5:20 p.m. on Friday in the 1,600.
Braden Mantell, South Webster, sixth in 1,600 meter run; 13th in 3,200 meter run
Like the Purcells, one of the best distance runners in the state will get to take his shot at two events.
Braden Mantell, who has the sixth-fastest 1,600 meter run time in Division V and the 13th-best 3,200 meter run time in the same realm, holds marks of 4:21.90 and 9:35.57 between the two races.
Mantell will compete for the Jeeps on Thursday at 6:55 p.m. in the 3,200 meter run and Friday at 5:28 p.m. in the 1,600 meter run.
Braden Mantell, Liam Osborne, Aiden Rowland, Logan Mantle, South Webster, 4-by-800 meter relay
Along with Mantell qualifying as an individual, the Jeeps will also send Mantell, along with Liam Osborne, Aiden Rowland and Logan Mantle as part of South Webster’s 4-by-800 meter relay squad.
They will compete as part of the OHSAA Division V 4-by-800 meter relay prelims, which commence at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Keagan Salem, West, ninth, 300 meter hurdles
Last but not least, West’s Keagan Salem will also compete as a state qualifier after earning the fifth and final qualifying spot at the OHSAA Division IV, Region 13 Meet in the 300 meter hurdles, posting a 39.85.
Salem, who enters the state meet with the ninth-best time among all competitors in the event, runs in the 300 meter hurdle preliminary race at 2:35 p.m. on Thursday evening.
