Samuel L. Jackson Checks into 1408
Source: Variety
April 4, 2006

Samuel L. Jackson has checked into 1408, the Dimension Films adaptation of the Stephen King short story. Variety says that shooting begins in the summer.

Mikael Håfström (Derailed) will direct and John Cusack stars as a debunker of paranormal occurrences who encounters real terror when he checks into the notorious Room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel.

Matt Greenberg wrote the original script and Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski did the rewrite. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing.

The short story was originally published in the collection "Everything's Eventual."

I read the short story and it was really good. Most of King's short stories are just entertaining, this one was actually scary.

This got two thumbs up on Fill In The Blank & Roeper. Looks really good.

John Cusack was on a L.A. radio station this morning and he said he was shocked they got a PG 13 instead of an R rating.

Saw it over the weekend, still have the chills.

For the most part I have been disappointed watching King's work made into film, the real creepy factory is just missing. But John Cusack makes this movie, I'm not sure who else they could have gotten that would have allowed the creepiness to come through but he did an outstanding job.

On a side note....We had a family of six seated in front of us, kids ages about 5 to 12 that had to leave cause the little ones were freaking out. I don't know what their parents were thinking. Folks, Harkins has a child care center in it---save yourself the grief if you have to bring the little ones with you to a not so appropriate movie, sign them up, it doesn't cost much more than a ticket and you both be better off. If nothing else the other theater patrons would appreciate it.

Love scary movies, and love most Stephen King.

This will be a DVD/HD purchase.

Eh. It was ok, but disappointing to me in that it really didn't concentrate on "why" the room was haunted, which is much more interesting. John Cusack was great, but everyone should know that it's no exaggeration when people say that Samuel L. Jackson is barely in the movie.

Watched this tonight, it was good, but I suck at watching scary movies by myself :)

I'm such a wimp...I fast forward one level so I don't hear the sound....

I swear, I'm such a coward :)

Good movie, naturally not near as good as the short story but a good thriller

It was alright. Not great. They don't make really good scary movies anymore.

This movie was better than any slasher or zombie flick made in the last 10 years.

I like it when the horror is psychological instead of gory. It makes for a much better film.

I recently watched this. I was a little disappointed with this one. I thought it was just an average movie. It reminded me a little of Cast Away, in that it seemed to drag on and on while he was in the room.

I was very into the film until the end, that just killed it for me. I'd give it a 6/10.

I dug this movie.

Does anyone else think that he never escaped the room?
