After only three games in their first WPBL season, the Boston Hunters announced a managerial change. The team posted on X that Keith Foulke, a former Red Sox World Series winner and their manager since July 26, had been dismissed immediately.

The decision came just 30 minutes before their game against the New York Heights at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, IL, on Sunday.

Foulke was replaced by another former Red Sox player, Jemile Weeks, effective immediately. Since the startling announcement, fans have taken to social media to share their reactions to the latest developments in the Women’s Pro Baseball League, with many demanding more details and the real reasons behind the managerial shakeup.

Foulke was part of the 2004 Red Sox roster and played an integral role in the postseason run to World Series glory. As a pitcher, he was part of the game-ending play that helped Boston sweep the Cardinals and lift the World Series trophy for the first time in 86 years.

The Hunters Have Started the WPBL Season on a Disappointing Note​

The Hunters were 1-2 in their first three games when they decided to part ways with Foulke on Sunday. They lost their season opener to the San Francisco Firebells on August 2, then lost game 2, 4-12, to the Los Angeles Queens before finally winning against the Heights on Saturday.

While fans were clearly perplexed by the managerial move, they hoped the team could carry the winning momentum into Sunday’s game against New York. However, Weeks, the team’s new manager, lost his opening game, going down 7-6 to the Heights, which ultimately left the Hunters’ overall record at 1-3 this season.

Boston will now play their next game against the Heights on Thursday.
