Tarik Skubal pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time on Tuesday, and many fans loved watching Dansby Swanson hit a homer off him.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Tuesday night matchup against the Chicago Cubs was the big draw of the week’s MLB games. The reason for this is obvious, it marked Tarik Skubal’s debut for his new team.

Skubal going to LA in a trade angered many baseball fans. With the Dodgers already boasting a team stacked with superstars, this move only added to the feelings of unfairness that already existed.

It’s no surprise, then, that fans were ‘hate-watching’ the 2-time Cy Young Award winner when he made his debut. And for his haters, there was one perfect moment that they absolutely loved.

Baseball fans ruthlessly make fun of Tarik Skubal on social media

The Dodgers took an early lead at the top of the second inning, with their new star pitcher dealing out two shutout innings to start the game. Things changed in the bottom of the third, though.

Dansby Swanson capitalized on a pitch right down the middle and sent the ball straight into the stands. It’s an understatement to say that fans loved it, with social media erupting with mockery for LA and Skubal.

“Tigers fans and all MLB teams fans uniting to hate on Skubal, you love to see it!!” wrote one fan. “I’m a Yankees fan and this has to be the most satisfying homer I’ve watched all season,” said another.

“It’s going to be hilarious watching Skubal throw meatballs for the next few months,” a fan predicted. “I will celebrate every earned run this loser gives up,” another fan claimed.

“On behalf of the entire MLB… Thank you, Dansby Swanson,” a fifth fan wrote. “Skubal is actually cooked and I can’t wait for the Dodgers to realize that,” a sixth fan claimed.

It’s safe to say that this trade was unpopular among the larger baseball fandom. If Skubal doesn’t want to continue to be the subject of ridicule, he’ll need a big performance when he comes to the mound next.

Tarik Skubal’s Los Angeles Dodgers’ debut by the numbers

The 29-year-old’s debut at Wrigley Field ended in disappointment for the team. When he left the mound in the 6th inning, Skubal had given up two runs and the Dodgers were trailing.

The game eventually ended as a 5-1 loss for LA. In six IPs, Skubal gave up four hits, including the aforementioned home run. He pitched 85 times, allowing two runs and managing to get six strikeouts.

This was far from the ideal start for the former Tiger. The Dodgers may have added a huge star to their stacked roster, but the beauty of baseball is that nothing is guaranteed.
