Summary: When scrolling through the transfer portal list back in February, the name Ryan Manis likely didn’t jump off the page as one of the high profile grabs for Brohm and staff, in fact you likely may not even remember his name at all, and that is exactly how Mr. Manis would like to keep it.
In one of the more low profile, high risk positions on the team, the long snapper gets very little love or praise, but gets 100% of blame as soon as the ball skips back to the holder or punter one time, or worse case, grows wings and takes flight five yards over their heard. “Just snap the ball” says the guys two rows up who tripped walking up the steps to his seat and struggles to keep his pants zipped after his third trip to the restroom this half. It ain’t that simple bud.
Manis joins the program after whipping those oblong balls through his legs for Liberty University a couple years. He comes in with a few seasons of eligibility left and will likely be competing against the upperclassman Hayden Travelstead who saw a little PT last year and was looking to move into that starting spot. While long snapper competitions are typically held out on the lake, this one should be a good one to watch on land.
While it pains me to highlight Notre Dame in any way, I did think this video was interesting giving you a quick breakdown of how to perform a long snap. Tryouts are next week, bud.
