‘I wasn’t expecting’ – Jalen Brunson reveals what surprised him most about the Knicks’ championship win

Jalen Brunson has revealed the unexpected reality of life after winning a championship with the New York Knicks.

Brunson led the Knicks on an incredible run to the NBA Finals, where they defeated Victor Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs in five games.

Nicknamed the ‘King of New York’, the point guard has suddenly become one of the biggest superstars in American sports.

Brunson has enjoyed the attention since becoming an NBA champion, but it has also caught him off guard this summer.

Jalen Brunson reveals what life has been like since the Knicks won the title​

Even non-basketball fans knew that the New York Knicks winning their first title in over half a century would be a huge moment.

And no Knicks player has received more media attention than Finals MVP and 26-point-per-game scorer Jalen Brunson.

Although Brunson has relished the responsibility of being the face of the Knicks, he was not prepared for the reaction to their title win.

“Yes and no. I kind of understood what the feeling would be like,” he told the New York Post at his annual charity golf day.

“In the moment of it happening, I understood what that would be like… I knew I’d be emotional. Just everything after that is what I wasn’t expecting.

“Obviously there’s a lot of obligations you have to do. A lot of things that have already [been] structured into your calendar, a lot of things added in.

“So there have been a lot of things like that, but still been trying to make time for my family, still make time for my main job.”

Brunson has certainly done his fair share of media this summer, from speaking to Whoopi Goldberg to visiting the New York Yankees.
