so, i recently started a new gig in a writer's room on the FOX Lot and yesterday, we had a pop-in from a writer on the Simpsons who was there on his 23rd year. While he was sitting there, the crazy thing that went thru my head was he probably came into the show at least a full season after I stopped watching... and I watched the first 13 seasons religiously.

36 seasons. That's insane.

Do we have some great players? Absolutely! Do we have some holes to fill? Hell yes.

We have a journeyman QB holding out and he's supposed to be our starting QB. What other NFL franchise experiences this?

Things fell apart last year. In a big way. But part of the reason it hits so hard is because we had legit expectations last year.
its difficult to consider at this point. But last summer, even the talking heads that openly hate the Redbirds expected us to win 10 games. but the first six weeks left everybody shaking their heads asking WTAF.... because it was inexplicable.
what happened to the team happened in the locker room. not on the field...thats why its so hard to really comprehend..hard to diagnose....because there wasnt an obvious issue...we all knew we are light on star power, so we were not likely to go deep in the playoffs... but we have a group of solid pro football players.
we are the cardinals. Things dont go our way.
But we are primed to be a "worst to first" story.

and the way things go with the redbirds...a season in which we have this brutal ass schedule...is a prime time for us to come out of the blue and make the playoffs...just to leave everyone asking WTAF??

Hope is high across the media in preseason for our offense - I think Mike L works from fundamentals up and adds to a solid base - see how they adjust when it counts. Run game is the engine of any good offense, we have the horses if they don’t go lame again.
Defense seems not great at anything, nor good all around like the eagles were under Gannon and Rallis. I think some others would do better with the players we have, but this is what cards chose to field. Prove it Rallis.
Most the doom and gloom is about the tough schedule, but I don’t buy all other’s are selling , can’t do much about it anyhow at this point. Deal the cards what’s dealt.
Ain’t scared of our division. Gotta punch them in the mouth and win the division, if we can it we can win it all.

Although a very small sample size the offense looks promising, while the defense looks uninspiring at the moment. We will still struggle this year based on pure schedule alone, but I think we will be in most games, with defense again letting it slip away too many times.

Yup. The limiters on the offense are basically the QBs and depth (especially on OL at super-especially at OT).

The limiters on defense are basically 3-5 starters who would be depth players on a good defense and then depth (especially at edge and off-ball linebacker).

It could easily happen that the defense is so bad we get blown out repeatedly even if the offense is slightly above average.
