Again, I love Highsmith for his defense and grit. And wouldn't mind having him back on the roster but here is the reality.

Yeah, I think he signed with us expecting regular minutes once he completed his rehab. And now the minutes don't appear to be there for him. But I'm not sure how much of a market there is for him until he gets the chance to prove he's all the way back to his pre-injury form.

I hope we don't extend Bridges before the year and one of those 2 guys play well enough to make extending him a moot point.

You have to look at players as the Suns assets. We don't save draft picks, we just get more players. We are setting ourselves up for trades like Allen and Oneal. They will extend Bridges. Then trade him later. Seems like they are unwilling to depend on the rookies and second year guys for winning basketball.

That's because they don't look at picks as assets. Thus the players are the assets. The picks are obviously no value or low value to the Suns. I can't say I blame their logic too much, because there are NBA teams just loading up on picks, but they seem as afar away from a title as us.

So arguably they traded those two older players for one guy in his prime. The picks, one future one unprotected, versus a low round first plus a second we can use now. I don't know why poeple are getting worked up about the picks at all, because we will use them in trades anyway. We went two old for one in his prime is the basis of the trade overall.

I can see why fans get worked up about it, but the Suns front office seems to view draft picks much like currency, a means to and end, not something to sit on.

Sorry to tell you, in the business of the NBA, draft picks ARE currency. So are players.

The real mistake was not adding options or non-guaranteed money to make their deals more palatable. For all his faults, Sarver seemed to want as little guaranteed money on the books as possible and that made players easier to trade.

As I recall, there were rumors the Suns wanted to use these players in trade to seek a replacement for Jusuf Nurkic. However, it never happened. This was when James Jones was the GM.

Mis-calculation on JJ's part to naively believe, that overpay in anual salary and length for GA were assets easy to trade for values. And RO's length made his contract unappealing. In hindsight, committing to just 2 max players (Book, KD) and use MLEs to sign players like Avdija, Powell, Brooks, would've been much better.
