Jacoby Brissett is at Cardinals training camp and the quarterback is not staging a hold-in for the team’s first practice.

Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters that Brissett will participate in the team’s first workout of the summer on Thursday. Brissett skipped the voluntary portion of the team’s offseason program and did not participate after reporting to the team’s mandatory minicamp last month.

Brissett is looking for a revised contract that better reflects his position as the team’s likely starter at quarterback to kick off the season. There has been no agreement on a new deal at this point, but LaFleur said at his press conference that talks on that front have been “productive.”

As long as things remain unresolved on the contract front, there would be a chance that Brissett makes a different decision regarding his practice plans but camp will open with the veteran taking reps along with his fellow quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck.

we all know briskett aint the long term answer...and we know he is not a top notch QB... but Ill be damned if i dont like pretty much everything he shows as a person and as a professional.
It aint my money..and we dont know if mikey has monti on some type of lockdown as far as how much money he can spend on that rolling salary cap...because thats the only thing I can see that would be a major hold up...that percentage they have to spend over a rolling few years to avoid league sanctions...if monti is on a budget with that then I can understand his reluctance to pay briskett because it will affect his ability to make a meaningful move next off season..

but if it were me...I would offer briskett something in compromise...something like 2 years..and around 34million...with around 20mil guaranteed..
structure it at 20mil for this season...with like 15mil guaranteed..then 14 mil next season with another 5 mil guaranteed....so he would basically be paid as a bottom of the barrel starter this year and a transition/backup next year..
then, just to make the numbers look better and maybe sooothe some egos...I would throw in a crap ton of incentives...say,..pass for 5000 yards...1mil....70%completions on the season...750k....30 TD's...1mil.....pro bowl starter 5mil..pro bowl alternate 1,5mil...all pro...6mil....team makes the playoffs 1mil...team earns #1seed in playoffs...2.5mil... team makes NFCCG 3mil...Team makes SB 5mil....

so...if by some miracle of fate JB has a career season and this team makes the super bowl while JB earns lots of pro bowl and all pro honors along the way....he could possibly end up with a $40mil season...

we all know that wont happen...but thats the beauty of the word "Possible".... but he could earn a few extra bucks along the way even if the team doesnt dominate...I mean, the NFL is a fraternal boys club...I wouldnt put it against them for the players to vote JB into a pro bowl to get him a fat check..he is a pretty well liked and respected guy around the league...while mike B is not....

but either way the main purpose behind all that fluff is ego soothing anyway... since its highly likely JB never plays more than 8 games this year...but if he does it is solely because he is playing just too good for the staff to bench him and look at Beck

it would certainly take a career year..as JB only has 6 300 yard games in his career...five were when he was a Colt and one as a Brown...
but with a little growth from Marv..a good year from Trey,...continued boom from Mike Willy,...and an explosive rookie campaign from Love.....he could see the 300 yard passing game return to his arsenal for 2026

again, please keep in mind..it is very late in the off season. we are but what?? Two weeks from the Hall of Fame game??..and most importantly...it just aint my money.

Takeaways from #AZCardinals HC Mike LaFleur ahead of his first camp practice:

- Paris Johnson Jr. “honestly nothing, just maintaince stuff” and said same thing with Josh Sweat landing on PUP. Said knees for both.

- They’re gonna be smart with James Conner/Trey Benson/Walter Nolen III with their returns.

- “still ongoing” when asked about Jacoby Brissett. Said he will be practicing. Declined to say it was a quarterback battle.

- on Isaiah Adams: “he’s doing good. Not gonna comment on that.”

- says this isn’t any different as a first time head coach entering training camp.

- On Marvin Harrison Jr.’s bulk: says he looks good but it’s person to person and doesn’t overly get into player weights.

- on extra game/practice impacts schedule: Says it paired up really well with what they wanted to do. Excited with it being his first year.

- on being NFC West underdogs: we’ll always ignore outside noise and always embrace competition. “Every week is so hard.”

Budda Baker about his recent tweet asking for Jacoby Brissett’s contract to be figured out:

“I just want everyone to be on the field … You only get better by practicing.”

“Jacoby did a great job last year.”

Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson will compete for the No. 1 WR role at training camp, per
@joshweinfuss

"Because of TE Trey McBride, whoever ends up as WR2 could be the third receiving option, and the third option doesn't tend to get their fair share of passes."

I find this difficult to believe... especially coming from Weinfuss.

I think they'll be playing different roles in the offense and neither will be named #1. Whoever ends up with the most yards and TDs will be dictated by how defenses are playing them game-to-game, who gets open more, who makes the most of his catches, and whom the QB is comfortable targeting.

Maybe it just means who's gonna line up X and Z.

I saw highlights of Beck and Minshew throwing to teammates, but Jacoby throwing to a position coach. I think it's still a hold in, but a modified hold in...unless I missed something.
The coach was quoted as saying he participated in practice

That means it’s Wilson hands down lol
