Eredivisie as well develop a lot of talent and at times produce elite squads that inevitably feed top leagues. I went to the 2019 UCL semifinal first leg in Tottenham and 3-4 of the spurs players came up with Ajax. the away fans gave standing ovations for those spurs players and booed the rest of the spurs players. it was awesome.

I think that has been one of the weak points with MLS, youth development. that has changed and gotten better over the last 10 years or so. But it is still relatively new for MLS to develop elite homegrown players. I think about half of the top players for USA are MLS developed and the other half in Europe. We also lost a few players here and there to other countries like Mexico. I think for MLS to take the next step they have to make the game more inclusive to all of the American population. As you pointed out, USA should be a better football country than they are based on population. But we are going in the right direction. There are great football nations that are struggling now. It’s not easy and having quality players is only one part of the equation. USA finally have the quality, it’s the grit that we are seeing now that is making a difference.
Ajax’s academy is legendary.

I’m pretty surprised at the lack of comments here about what will undoubtedly be the iconic match of this World Cup.
It was incredible. I’m disappointed that it didn’t go to pens. I think we will see more chaos and incredible outcomes. I hope this is just the beginning.

i am not a futbol guy - like at all - but i truly enjoyed the wrexham show and started paying more attention the last few years - i wasn't into the last world cup nearly as much as this one

when i say i'm not a futbol i'm dead ass - wife and i were watching a game last week when the ball hit the pole in the corner of the field - bounced back on the field and everybody kept playing

WTF?

i think those were my exact words - then my brain started computing why the pole was there at all - i think it's to save the refs from being murdered - the ball either bounces off the pole for a throw or corner kick (or back on the field lol) so the ref doesn't have to make the call - and get murdered

that's my logic lol - and i don't wanna google it

this world cup also aligns with a time that has no suns or cardinals - i'm friggin dyin' ova hee

but i did watch some premier and champions leagues this year - tried to make it to a rising game but didn't - rising stadium is about 4 miles from my house

i think i like futbol the more I understand it - the more that i see common characteristics/plays i often see in basketball or the nfl - pretty sure i saw a country running the triangle offense on one side of the pitch the other night - for real

same with the free kick plays - i see traditional managers and other's who've evolved - not with trick plays but more strategic attempts

don't get me started on defense - i love it - i used to see a bunch of cry babies falling down grasping their protected shins - i now see the difference between impressive stops and desperate or malicious attacks

i've seen teams get robbed on the field - both by refs and by v.a.r.

i realize fifa is corrupt af - but the world puts up with it

i'm about 80% good on what dictates offsides but it's been stuck at 80% for some time - i may never get it

but funk it - i'm all in and it feels great to feel patriotic again - i like the whole team - thought it was going to be the pulisic show but we're deeper than that - partly due to all the birthright/grandparented stuff thai i also don't fully comprehend but am more than thankful for

i still haven't picked out a european team to root for - wrexham is cool but khaman - they kinda paid their way up

futbol has been fun to watch tho - funner than baseball - funner than golf - funner than nascar - and the world cup is next level with all the greats playing for pride - all the back stories - all the visitors experiencing america - it's beautiful

You mean Argentina and Cabo Verde? There's been a few iconic matches. You have to be more specific. :)

I watched this game last night, Argentina and Cabo Verde. Back to back goals, to tie the score 2-2, were probably two of the top goals in all the World Cup so far. It was awesome.

Yes, from what I've seen that game was the best game of the Cup so far. #1 vs #67 in the world.

This World Cup there have not been many stinker games. Lots of heroics. Hat trick by Messi. Renaldo game winner. Harry Kane game winner. Brasil winning at the death. So far this has been an excellent World Cup. The games have all been mostly competitive. Even though the field was expanded and they feared a lot of stinker games. It's been quality.

Argentina game was great. Saturdays games not so much. Give Paraguay an Oscar nomination for the amount of dramatic life threatening fouls they received. The flopping in agony over NOTHING is embarrassing to say the least.

Yep. Morocco v France will be the match of the tourney, I think.
I hope it is. Can only imagine the scenes if Morocco wins. Aside from the USA I think I'm rooting against France and Argentina. If they get knocked out that is really going to be awesome.

I did not watch France vs Morocco but I heard Morocco used all the dirty tricks in the book. Shameful appearance.

It was Paraguay and yeah, it's not classy. it was also a concession that they knew they couldn't beat France straight up. and that more than anything is having your team go into a game already believing they will lose if they don't do something drastic.

I wish FIFA would do more to punish teams for baiting the opponent into a red card situation or crossing the line on bad sportsmanship. but overall, in this tournament they have done a good job by not rewarding people for diving. that's a big plus for me.
