He's cheap, but doesn't sound like much confidence in Maluach with this move...

I think it's more a case, Maluach (19) is not ready to start and Oso is a backup center.

it's so complex - we were winning with williams but the suns must be confident in the foot - only way to explain a full 3 years

i was 100% wrong on this - consistently

That's more than I would have liked to pay him. I wonder if it has some significant health clauses. It's basically $11.7 million next year with 8% raises over the next two. That's not starter pay. That's backup center pay in today's NBA.

If he remains healthy, that's a very tradeable contract. It's probably about right given the impact he had on this team when he was playing.

It puts him in the Luke Cornet, Wendell Carter, Jonas V, salary range.

Meh. Ok.

I assume they will keep his minutes low. Maluach will get more minutes as we go. Oso will also get productive minutes. Its a good center rotation.

And he may have backup center trade value. Given the Gillespie and Goodwin friendly deals this ain’t too bad.

A couple of things here. The Mark Williams three-year contract is very tradeable especially if he plays well. He will start and when Maluach is ready whenever that may be Mark can either be a backup or be traded. Second, I understand many fans wanted a big move not to run it back with a team that got swept in the first-round by OKC. What I would say is that they are going to rely on a second year of Jordan Ott and his system, health of Jalen Green and Grayson Allen, development of Fleming and Maluach and just continuity of playing together with the same guys to improve on last season - how much? Not sure but I would think their goal is to get into a top 6 seed and improve on last years win total.

To me, the biggest problem with this team is that we have both Booker and Green. They haven't really been able to play well together, and ya kinda have to start both of them. But neigher is a pg, so we go with a 3 guard line up. But we also then have to start Dillon. So we end up going small all the time.

It all starts with having to start both Book and Green.

If Morant weren't messed up in the head, Green+GA for him would be a perfect trade. Or if we could get Giddey for Brook+GA to play alongside Booker and Green.

i would say this deal makes mark williams less tradable with the whole health scare aspect - meaning we're really keeping him

im also guessing book had his back 100%

He will be great trade value to a team that wants a C who will play about half the time.

To me, it seems the Suns are just doubling down on faulty assumptions: A) that Ott's "system" is in any way special and didn't actually fall apart in the second half of last year when teams adjusted to it, and B) that running out a roster that's largely dependent on guys who are perennially injury prone isn't a recipe for disaster.

It is nowhere close to ideal but we traded out of "ideal" territory almost 4 years ago. So we make do with less until the playing field is evened out.

I agree, Steve. But I addressed this in another comment of yours in another thread.

Eh, they gave him an extra year in exchange for fewer dollars per year. It's a tradable contract. I don't have any issues with this. Now trade one of the wings for a power forward to back up Fleming, and they're good to go.

word - i don't like the 3 years at all but the 12 per aint nothing but a thing for what he brings *just not on back to backs - might want to be extra precautious just so we can play maluach more *and so williams can last thru the season
