Of course there is some optimism.

You do realize that we have a completely new coach, offense, oline, and new weapons.

Hopefully MLF can help the kid unlike the coaches before.

No one is saying that Beck is the next coming but why try to rain on the parade when no one knows anything?
I totally agree with you. I wanted the Cards to draft a qb but not at #3. I also felt that they should go after one of these 3 (Beck, Allar or Nussmeier) whichever they felt was best. I also like that the Cards brought in a very experienced QB Coach in Matt Schaub. I think our offense will be much better this year.

Seriously, let’s all hope so otherwise it is going to be a very long season.

Because it is a message board about the Cardinals. Did people not discuss Kyler or QB play because they didn't think he was good? Did people not critique Kliff even though they thought he wasn't any good? Not sure it is "crying" to want more from one of the worst franchises in pro sports.
Fair enough. I'm at a point as a fan where I am choosing the latter. Especially this franchise.

Everyone keep saying how his arm was shot after the elbow surgery, well maybe im missing something but I dont see a difference watching Ga tape and the Miami tape. Same zip and arm strength (throwing a td from backfoot) in Miami like in Ga.
He had a good arm at UGA but it was never special or anything like that. Same with his feet. His best attributes are his frame and experience.

All these talking heads crack me up. Ty Simpson is one year younger and the argument is not enough starts in college. Carson Beck is one year older and way more experienced but he’s been in college too long.
My biggest issues with Beck are his arm strength post injury, and his personality.

Took a look at Beck's arm strength and frankly he has an NFL arm and can make all the throws. Put it this way, there is a lot of zip and accuracy in a lot of his throws and accuracy is not achieved with major arm deficiencies. His arm may not be elite and even called average at this stage of his post-surgery, but it's NFL caliber.

They hate the Cards so this is on brand.

Ignore the media. Had the Giants got Love they would be calling him the next LT.

Haha didn't know that. But he did play in the NFL for 17 years many as a starter and was All Pro two times. Considered a very cerebral qb and should be a excellent coach to develop qbs like Beck. I really think hiring Schaub was a good move.

I was hoping for Nussmeir or Allar if the Cards didn’t get Simpson. For some reason I think Beck is going to be Chad Pennington 2.0. That’s just the comparison I have in my head. I hope I’m wrong and I want to see him start to find out.
Chad Pennington was pretty damn good... injuries tanked his career IIRC,,,plus, getting drafted by the Jets...thats bad news for any QB...dudes are cursed worse than we are when it comes to QB's..
Pennington is a prime example of that. There was every reason to believe he was the answer for the Jets...then the hits started coming in

If Carson Beck is Chad Pennington, sans injuries...we wont be drafting any quarterbacks for a while.

Here we go with the irrational optimism for beck. This train is never late.
Irrational??

If you recall... I was calling for us to draft Carson Beck,...months ago.
The dude is a quarterback.
Not likely a hall of famer or top 5 guy... but we could have done way worse.

I'm totally fine with the Beck pick in the 3rd round. I felt there was no way he would last until the Cards pick in the 4th round. I beleive Beck fits MLFs offense really well. The Cardinals needed to take a shot at a young QB in this draft who they could start to develop. Will Beck ever develop into anything more than a Backup QB? The odds are stacked against him, but you have to take some shots at the position.
see, I dont think the odds are stacked against him at all... I believe it likely he gets more opportunity than a third round pick usually gets.
I also believe Jacoby Brissett is setting him up for an early chance to be the guy...
Im guessing JB was on the phone with his agent moments after we made that pick instructing the guy to adjust their ask in contract demands....because drafting a guy with nearly 50 games under his belt throws a serious shift in the leverage of that situation.
in street terms,... he " Took that bass out his voice" in his contract demands.

players are forgotten quickly from one year to the next. But had Beck not hurt his throwing arm last year...the kid would have been a top 5 pick in the 2024 draft. as far as prospects go,...we got a steal.

of course,..he could have been drafted top 5 last year then busted spectacularly... but he could come to the Arizona Cardinals with the first pick in the third round...and go on to a 15 year career as a good starting Quarterback in the NFL.
But I dont think the extra year of college football took anything away from his skill set

Jacoby doesn’t have an agent.

You have a very active imagination.

Warner doesn't seem to think arm strength is an issue, because his game is all about timing.
Who am I to disagree with Kurt Warner but Beck's passes deep float. His ability to throw off platform which can occur with pressure aren't as crisp. I don't think Beck is going to be able to rip a pass down the field with dudes falling into his legs where he can't step into his throw. It's just a limiting factor IMO. I understand if people trust Kurt's opinion over mine, but that is what I have seen.

I personally would have gone oline or dline with the 3rd round pick. Then get a QB in the next draft which on paper is better. Reading the so called experts on this pick is a mixed bag. Some think it is good. Others pan it. Nobody really knows. We are not paid to make these decisions. Hope this works out.
Have to do both. QB now AND next year if necessary. Can’t get around wasting a few picks trying to find a QB IMO. It’s kind of like expecting that the first girl you date is the one you are going to marry. It COULD happen but it’s not likely. One sure way never to find a wife is to not date anyone until you find THE ONE.

Normally I think personalities can be misleading (this forum confirms that;)) but then I remember Mr. Show me the money Manziel and I'm gonna make 9 other teams regret their decision Tune. I'm hoping the NIL money may have given Beck a chance to have lived and screwed up already and he's matured. We won't know until August.

If he can throw with anticipation and get through progressions quickly, he will have a chance at being at least decent. From what I have heard those are some of his strengths. Time will tell if they are a strength at the NFL level. Though he will have to improve against pressure as well if he is to be a legitimately good NFL QB.

agree.
I like Kurt. But his QB evaluations have been less than stellar over the years.
I am hoping, having a successful season under his belt will allow him to loosen up and maybe strengthen that arm...get a bit of zip back. He never did have a cannon but pre injury it was noticeably stronger...

his route tree will be limited in the NFL if he doesnt pick up some velocity and flatten those short passes. Backers and safeties are way too quick in the league to leave a ball in the air any longer than it has to be.

Watching a lot of video of both Beck and Brissett. I am no scout, so take that into consideration. I didn't see very many reads or throws that Brissett made that Beck could not have made. In fact, they look like similar players. Beck seems to be a very accurate passer and does a good job going down through his receivers. He is really good on his timing routes. He puts the ball where receivers can catch it, but does not always make it easy for receivers because he will throw into tight windows. Beck is a big guy and never looks like he is worried about getting hit. He moves slightly to avoid the rush, but nothing like Kyler's scared bunny routine.

Watching Beck last year and Brissett last year, I was really struck by how much time Beck generally got in the backfield with Miami. He had a good line with good protection. Brissett was dealing with a collapsing pocket on nearly every play. Beck will have to get used to having half a second or more less time.

Overall, to me, they seem like similar players with similar skill levels. But we will see.

Can he take a snap first? lol

You can estimate a guys ceiling based on precedent.

The vast majority of players with 6 years in college, multiple teams, taken 3rd round or later, or drafted at age 24 are statistically Stetson Bennett at best.

Just being drafted 3 or later alone gives him a Mason Rudolph / Davis Mills ceiling statistically. Add in the other factors and the odds of him being more than Stetson Bennett are tiny.

Not impossible, but he'd be a huge outlier.

The only QB I can find in recent history drafted 3 or later at age 24 that has done anything in the league is now Beck's teammate. Jacoby Brissett.
