The college stats for Carson Beck and Brock Purdy are alarmingly similar. Games started, total yards, yards per attempt are very comparable.

Here is a comparison of the most important QB stats (Completion percentage, touchdowns, interceptions):

Completion percentage-Beck-69.5, Purdy-68

Touchdowns-Beck-88, Purdy-81

Interceptions-Beck-32, Purdy-33

No one ever thought Purdy would be a hit at the NFL level. He was a highly experienced, weak armed, efficient passer in a conference of really weak defenses. Yet, his skill set works in the Shanahan system as have other skill deficient game managers.

Why can’t Beck work in a Shanahan type system under LaFleur? His college profile is basically the same as Purdy while playing a much tougher college schedule. The skill position players around Beck should be every bit as talented as what is around Purdy considering how often guys like Kittle and McCaffery are injured.

I understand the perception of Beck. His days at Georgia were filled with stories of immaturity. However, he legitimately seemed to grow up at Miami. Mario Cristobal is as tough as it gets and he loved Beck. That says something about the kid. I say give him a chance.

Not gonna pretend that I watched a lot Brock Purdy in college but he was seen as an afterthought as a prospect. Sometimes you get those kind of 7th rd/undrafted QB success stories once a decade. Carson Beck was a good college QB that never stood out talent wise. He’s got a good frame and play feet with an okay arm. I think Kyle Trask is a better comp given their size and draft range.

One guy was the last pick in the draft, lottery ticket, that paid off.

Beck was a top of the round 3rd round pick. Hope the Cards get lucky too. But used a lot more draft capital on Beck.

After the terrible trade SF made for that QB whose name escapes me, Purdy saved Lynch's job. Monti is hoping for the same.

Trey Lance!

IMO the Shanahan/McVay offense can make anyone look adequate in fairly short order. Nick Mullens passed for almost 250 YPG in this offense.

Real question is whether Beck can be better than Brissett and Minshew, and how soon? Then the follow-up is can the defense be playoff caliber with the people we have?
