Not saying Reese won't be a good player, but try to find the last few LB/EDGE drafted in the top 10 with 10 or fewer career sacks in college.

Last one I could find was Aaron Curry in '09. Before that? Maybe Keith McCants in 1990. Maybe I missed someone, and Reese clearly has massive upside, but that's pretty horrific.
How about a guy named Micah Parsons

A. There were pre draft rumors they were going to do this, which means it was fully considered before they did it. It wasn't a panic move.

B. I like the fact that a lot of experts pan the pick, they loved a lot of picks we did that went south, really any pick can do that to you.

I think there is an argument to be made that with the advent of 2-high safety schemes --

having a RB who can produce a big play everytime he breaks into the 2nd level is an advantage

i love Connor and Allegeir, but i think defenses can live with giving up 15 yards on the occasional play where they get into space

I’d like to know what, if any, offers they received. I would have taken Reese if there were no offers. Reese is a gamble as a pass rusher, but pretty much a sure thing as a LB.
From the pre-draft information I have seen, Reese has declared himself to be an EDGE player. If a team intends to use Reese as an off-ball LB I think they will be dealing with a discontented player out of the gate. That rarely goes well for the team acquiring such a player.

Reese if we stayed at 3…Frances or fano if we went down to 8 or 9..way better than taking a running back at 3…thing is our first next year will be a quarterback..so once again we won’t have any blockers ….and have stud weapons everywhere….lol good times

Should have been top 10. First three picks were QBs. In this draft only 1. He was top 10 among non-QBs.
My point was, you can find plenty of good off ball LBs from 10-15. Historically, you don't find any of those in the top 10. Parsons would have clearly been the gigantic exception. Maybe Reese is that as well, he might be.

But if we are bucking the trend to select Reese, we can apply the same logic to Love.

Again, Love is a really nice player but positional value and scarcity matter.
I hear you, and I would have been fine with either guy. How much less does positional value matter in this draft?

Like you said, I'd feel much better if money was spent to fix the Oline. If that were the case, that doesn't change positional value, historically. But it might have changed the outlook with Love on board

Don’t think it’s an issue from what I’ve heard. He wants to be moved around. The team taking him will do that. Reese said, "I think I played both positions pretty decent. I think I know I got a lot to get better at, at edge, and I got a lot to get better at linebacker, but I'm pretty decent at both positions, I think," he offered.

I’m confident Fano will be a bust. No clue how his profile made him a 1st rounder, let alone a top 10 pick.

I think Francis will be decent.

My take is Reese said that because he wanted to be drafted as high as 2nd and knew to do that, he had to be seen as an edge.

Same reason guys tell you they can play LT even though they never played it before LT gets a premium over RT on draft day

After Benson went down with Conner already out we had nobody with talent at RB. Carter really knows how to play he reads blocks, he cuts on a dime, but he has lost his speed so he'd make the right cut and then still get caught. His longest run was 22 yards, Bam and the other guys if the hole was there they could hit it but if it wasn't there they werent' getting anything.

Allgier is a north south runner, nothing wrong with that but when it's perfectly blocked he's still going to get caught because hes' slow, he had 3 runs over 40 yards as a rookie, since then his longest run is 31 yards in 3 total seasons. Last 2 years 280 carries total, longest run 25 yards.

Reese but not losing it over the Love pick…A trade down was my preference but hard to trust Monti in that situation. Would like to know what may have been offered.

Reese.

You could have made a better argument for Love if Monti would have invested more in the oline in FA. Instead he crap the bed again.
Not really. Taking an OL at #3 would have been just dumb, so his OL deficiencies don't enter into it. Yes, he should have done better on the OL in FA, though.
