I like the pick and being a long time season ticket holder it is nice to have a weapon like Love. Additionally lets wait to see the rest of the draft before we come to any conclusions..

I’d like to know what, if any, offers they received. I would have taken Reese if there were no offers. Reese is a gamble as a pass rusher, but pretty much a sure thing as a LB.

If Mauigoa could play LT as well as RT he should have been the pick. He can't so Love is the best day one difference maker imo. Lousy year to be drafting third overall. Couldn't get Bailey or Mendoza. Love was the right choice.

I would have preferred Reese or a trade-down. I'm not a fan of taking running backs so early. But oh well.

Cards have zero buzz, the media that spin it as a bad pick just because they didn't want Love in AZ. Bailey was the only other option @3 and he was gone. Reese will probably be exposed as a product of a stacked team @ OSU. The Cards history of drafting LB Rush Ends has been a clown show. The Cards will probably get a legit prime time game now instead of some BS Mon/Thurs night game on Prime streaming. Saying the depth @ RB is a joke, Connor is over 30 after missing 80% of last year and a career back up, and lastly a 3rd rd bust from 2 years ago....

Don’t hesitate to disagree. It’s been a long time since anyone paid for my draft expertise. I still believe you fix the defense first. Then get a QB and go from there. It’s rare to win without those 2 priorities. I understand that taking any LB this early is a gamble (so is Love for reasons I’ve posted elsewhere). If you can’t trade down, you take a risk. I wouldn’t like him but he has Browning’s quickness and far more power as a finisher. I saw how often Browning got into the pocket. Reese would have likely been an impact player on this team, especially when Nolen comes back. How often did the Cards lose lat because they couldn’t get to the QB? They say Love’s a finisher; so is Reese I think.

Not saying Reese won't be a good player, but try to find the last few LB/EDGE drafted in the top 10 with 10 or fewer career sacks in college.

Last one I could find was Aaron Curry in '09. Before that? Maybe Keith McCants in 1990. Maybe I missed someone, and Reese clearly has massive upside, but that's pretty horrific.

Having buzz does not make it a good pick. We should not be picking off of buzz. If love was in play why did we spend money on Allgeier? Someone is getting cut so is it Benson? That seems like a waste. I don’t see us keeping 4 RB on the active roster.

Fair, great reply. I tend to trust my evaluations of the offensive side of the ball more than the defensive these days, but that tremendous lack of bend in the comparison of Bain vs. Reese really got me spooked about his ability to be a pass rusher. I think he'll be a very good defensive player, but as was said about the Giants' approach to Reese, I think any team was going to have to start with him off-ball and then transition him... kinda like we've done with Zaven Collins.

Sound reasoning, either way.

Well, we usually do well with hybrids. I did read that doing the same thing, over and over and expecting a different outcome is ......... .

Using the actual draft. If we took Mauigoa or Fano they were reaches, Fano went 9th Mauigoa 10th. So taking either at 3 is way too early. If we took the rumored Dallas deal , assuming it was real, we are sitting at 11 and both the guys we liked were just picked so we take Proctor at 11 who went 12th but per Harry, Proctor is seen as a LT who has never played RT and has no interest in playing RT. Maybe would have taken Miller. I like either player but again moving down we don't get the guys we actually wanted.

The best case scenario from that move down would probably have been take Downs at 11 and Lomu or Price at 23. So you have to take Lomu. Would I prefer Downs and Lomu, no.

I figured this year was going to be a series of posts from me saying that's a nice run but man he's slow if he had any speed at all we'd have gotten 20 yards on that with either Allgier or Conner. Now we might actually get 20 yards or more. All about the rest of the picks.

Also the local media story on why the 49ers traded out of the first round, the reason they did, because they didn't want to pay first round money for second round players. Said after about the first 12 guys they thought it was simply not worth it so they moved down, if you listen to the media talk they specifically said a bunch of 2nd round guys by grade went first round because of the weak draft they simply chose to not partake

One thing the Cardinals haven't done enough in the draft is ignore their "needs" at the time and simply keep it simple and draft the best player. Last night, they did that and I think we'll ultimately look back at this and say it was the right move. Now it's time to draft the best offensive lineman on the board to help Love out a little bit, Simpson being off the board might be the best thing since they won't be tempted to reach for a QB and can take one on Day 3 instead who may well turn out to be just as good or better in the long run.

We didn't break the bank on Allgeier. It kinda sucks for him, since I think he's a pretty darn good RB (I think he's better than Conner was when we signed Conner after his stint with the Steelers), but not a game changer. If an elite tackle was available, we could have made it work.

Bam Knight's likely off the roster. Benson's gonna be fighting for a job, and realistically, should be. I wouldn't mind trading Conner. Honestly, none of those guys were giving me any confidence regardless of us drafting Love or not. I particularly think Conner is cooked, and was pedestrian before a terrible injury. I was amped for Benson, but he never developed, and didn't get to take advantage of his one shot. Knight's a guy who deserves to be on an NFL roster, but that's about the best I can say.

so it was a question of two positions that typically arent taken in the top 5

could Reese turn into a pass rushing threat? yes, but i believe that in the top 5 or so, you ought to take players who ARE, not could be

I also think Monti's status didnt put him in the place to take a projection. He needs a star right out of the gate
