oso doesn't suck - the hot takes here suckOso sucks. The Suns were -23 with him on the floor tonight. That's after being -19 with him on the floor in Game 1. Honestly, I know MAN MAN isn't ready but I would rather him get Oso's minutes.
Hes also not the solutionoso - a backup center playing with 4 guards against two starting 7 footers on a championship team - yup - he's the problem
Yes he does. If it wasn't for his 8 rebounds he would be useless. He has no shot away from the bucket and nobody respects his defense. He is a backup player that shouldn't see the floor for extended minutes most nights.oso doesn't suck - the hot takes here suck

P.S. That's no hot take. I have been on Oso for more than just this game.
The reality is that he’s most effective in a limited change of pace type role and even then only against certain opponents.Let's be real, Oso is at best a 10th man or lower on any other playoff team (and probably a lot of lottery teams, as well). I appreciate that he gets as much out of his very limited talent as he can, but the fact that Ott is relying on him so much is one of the major reasons the Suns have floundered much of the second half of the season.
Maybe suck is a slight exaggeration but not by much. Oso is no threat away from the bucket and every offense in the league knows it. If he is not rebounding, he usually does little of everything else. I think the previous posters nailed it. He is a very situational type of player. He isn't someone you want to have extended minutes. Oso contributed but big part? That’s an exaggeration also. He isn't GREAT at anything and if he is not rebounding or protecting the rim? He isn't good for much else.He doesn't suck, but this is a nightmare matchup for him. He's a clever passer and finisher inside, but OKC is so long and active in the paint on D that they just shut down everything he's good at.
It also doesn't help that we've seemingly abandoned our motion, passing and give and go offense, quick passing and interior screens are stuff he's great at. Instead our offense is mostly Brooks going ISO or Green/Booker working really hard for contested shots.
He's not a starting caliber player, but he's a good player and he has been a big part of their success this year.
This feels strangely like Ott spoke to someone like Kenny Atkinson or Darvin Ham (both former bosses) and they told him that he had to shorten his rotation in the playoffs. It's just weird to me that he would revert from a guy who takes chances and isn't afraid to shake things up to someone that is stubbornly sticking to the status quo for NBA playoff basketball.Maybe suck is a slight exaggeration but not by much. I agree we have seen too much of the ISO hero ball crap. I heard some analysis yesterday that Brooks volumes of shots are off the chart and that when he is your high-volume shooter the Suns lose. Then we see Book and Jalen at times get caught up in that crap.
OKC is a great team and they make people look bad but the Suns have been struggling the entire 2nd half of the season. This isn't just an OKC thing either. I am most frustrated with Ott. When the team was going deeper into the bench everyone was praising Ott for not being afraid to go with other lineups when guys were struggling. That has basically evaporated.
We are playing likely the best team on the planet. What do we have to lose? We already have been worked 2 games in a row.

Getting to the playoffs is one thing, being successful in them is another. If the advice he's getting is indeed from Clifford, then I say get him the hell away from Jordan Ott. Because his playoff advice is crap.Steve Clifford is part of the staff here, listed as a coaching consultant. He has 10 years as a head coach under his belt with a few playoff trips with both Charlotte and Orlando.
He doesn't have a lot of success but given his ability to stay employed for over 2 decades, he's got something going for him. Given Ott is a rookie coach I don't think they had a ton of choices for assistants unless they were promised a chance to take over and I doubt Ishbia was willing to do that. That would explain why Clifford is a coaching consultant also rather than a regular assistant, he's here for Ott more than the team.
It's just perplexing. If you have a team as deep as OKC, I get it. You can afford things that other teams can't. When you have a team like the Suns, unconventional is what got you here. That's the key to your success. I said it earlier. Not sure if Ott is scared as a new coach or just fell into the "you must to X" because it's the playoffs or maybe it is advice. I would be happy with taking more chances because so far what he is doing hasn't worked. Ultimately, if the outcome is the same you can at least hang your hat on you did everything you could.Getting to the playoffs is one thing, being successful in them is another.
