With $54MM left in cap space this year and a league leading $178MM for next year, the Cards are apparently saving their powder for the 2027 season. Monti gets his second rebuild. Were the first three years just practice?

Awesome more money for Monti to waste or Bidwill to pocket.

We wouldn’t get better even if MO could have unlimited funds. The dude can’t recognize talent if it mugged him.

So maybe go out and get a great free agent and frontload the contract as much as possible this year?
They did that with Seumalo. His cap hit this year is $6.8M. 2027 $11.4m 2028 $13.1M

Minshew contract is not posted but they could have done something similar.

Cap space doesn't concern me right now. Getting a QB does.

I can't see anyway to do that other than tanking this year. The only decent FA QB next year is Baker Mayfield and I'd be shocked if he left Tampa.

Winner winner, chicken dinner. Smart idea--which means Monti won't do it. Not a chance in hades.

Just reinforces that year in, year out, this team isn't remotely dedicated to winning.

This is incorrect. Kyler's dead cap number will hit after June 1st. So you need to subtract $47M from that number.

I'm pretty sure that's already accounted for. Kyler's contract was already accounted for in this years cap space, the numbers we were looking at before we cut him.

Cutting him didn't really change that much, we're still paying him roughly the same, just not to be here.

That’s not what “frontloaded” means. If they were frontloading it, they would have a higher guaranteed salary and roster bonus this year and smaller cap charges in the following years.
this is funny. 2 of Monti s 8 free agents had an impact on the team performance. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-free-agency-tracker-offseason-moves-signings

I mean yeah. I’d argue that Eva Brown and ADG also had an impact.

Actually Kyler’s dead cap number gets readuced on June 1 as $7m or so gets shifted into 2026. We have to carry his full $52MM until then.

You should all be expecting JB to get a restructure and pay increase.

Maybe even a completely new 2 year deal.

If he's going to start he isn't going to do it for the money he is on, and if they think that much of him I don't see why they wouldn't be trying to add another year so he can mentor a draft pick.
