Is it though? You just traded away your 25 year-old healthy first team all pro cornerback for magic beans as you call them. In a draft that’s supposedly weak as hell…
Agreed = Rams made out. They know they are close, and are going for it.

Not sure what KC is doing, unless they are writing next year off

That one move puts the Chiefs back in the green regarding the salary cap. Plus McDuffie is up for a new contract soon so they figured that they probably couldn't afford him and might as well get some picks for him while they still could.

Wow

The 1st rounders before that they kept:

2014 - Aaron Donald
2015 - Todd Gurley
2016 - Jared Goff

Also note that the Goff pick was a 1st round pick swap (plus other picks) with the Titans to move up, and the Rams 2017 1st round pick

But you got back a 2027 3rd. And, with a QB like Mahommey and a much better organization, those beans could be magic. Also, Mahommey is hurt, so 2026 is probably a wash for them, making that 2027 3rd look even better.

I thought it was just one pick for the player. Looking at this, I think the Lambs got fleeced.

An interesting trade for sure.

Rams run a lot of nickel and they seem to think McDuffie was a better option to pay than the players they have now or would acquire with 29. They keep pick 13 which keeps options open for WR, RB, TE, OL or QB. Also, the Rams seem to have a lot of young talent on their roster so they want to get a bit more expensive at a couple spots.

Chiefs generally do not value their secondary enough to spend big contracts on it so it frees up money for them to spend in other places as well as opens up 29 to grab a CB, WR, OT, S, NT or ILB. Also prevents pressure to reach at 9. Chiefs want to get cheaper on their roster overall.

Great trade for the Rams. Fantastic young player at a position of need. That is worth way more than pick 29 and change.

Chiefs needed cap relief, good trade for them too.

I've heard many draft gurus say a late one yields round 2 talent in a weak draft class. Good move by the Rams.

They just don't seem to put a priority of investing big contracts into secondary players. They have at times, but not as a general principle. They got 4 years out of McDuffie and then received multi draft picks including a 1st for him in return. They can spend in other areas they feel are more important. Seems like a good way to go and an alternative way to maintain a roster with a QB who comes with a large cap hit.
