First W T F hiring on the new staff. Why? He sucked during his time as coach in Denver (4-11). Here's hoping he can be a good coordinator.
well, at one point, he had to be one of the "hot" coordinators to get a HC gig. He was bad as a HC for sure. Let's hope he's still a good OC.

HC experience and play calling. Hopefully he is good at clock management, in game adjustments and situational football as MLF will be busy calling plays.

We got someone with experience at least.
He specifically was awful at this in Denver. I believe that's the year they literally had to hire someone mid-season to help with clock management and such for him.

Agreed. Plus, wasn't he the coach who famously burned tons of clock to attempt a 67-yard FG at the gun (which wasn't good and his team lost)? IIRC, that was his debut game as Denver's HC and I was talking out loud to my TV, saying something like "Has this guy lost his mind?"

I think this hire is fine, honestly. He’s not calling plays. He’ll be helping installs and also is a seasoned voice with prior head coach experience for LaFleur to lean on.

Exactly!

Go get a young dude and groom him if MLF is calling the plays.

I do want an experienced DC though that can help MLF though.
Hypothetically, if it works out no one would hire Hackett anyway. He'd be like stepchild Josh McDaniels (in terms of being a HC) where no one would want to put him in a leadership role again.

He was a defensive analyst for Green Bay.

He was actually very good during his stint with Syracuse.

I understand the lack of enthusiasm but it's a fine hire. Dude has been to the playoffs several times as OC, both calling and not.

He's very good in the run game and had great production everywhere he's been.

He's not calling plays and he has a tonne of experience.

The funny thing is, on paper he's the best OC we had in a long time in terms of experience and still only 46.

Seriously though, this is what you get when you are the last to hire in a cycle. The pickens was slim. Some of the horror is lifted because he won't be calling plays.

There are less options, but still a bunch of options.

Which OC from a team that hired would you want that would come?

The only option I see here is Slowik, but he's not coming to not call plays. Neither is McDaniel.

1) Titans: Brian Daboll
2) Chargers: Mike McDaniel
3) Chiefs: Eric Bieniemy
4) Lions: Drew Petzing
5) Dolphins: Bobby Slowik
6) Commanders: David Blough
7) Falcons: Tommy Rees
8) Bucs: Zac Robinson
9) Bills: Pete Carmichael
10) Ravens: Declan Doyle
11) Eagles: Sean Mannion
12) Giants: Matt Nagy
13} Steelers: Some Italian guy I never heard of from the Viks

Who've we missed out on?

Underwhelming for sure. I am wondering if MLF will be going inexperienced with some of his other offensive coaches whom Hackett could help as well. He knows the system. He knows what MLF's brother struggled with or encountered in his first few seasons. He isn't calling plays or managing the clock. It's whatever for now.

We will never know because they couldn’t interview go OC until they had their HC. I nor YOU KNOW who would or wouldn’t come here. But, it’s a moot point now anyway.

There's nobody already gone who you would want or who would come here. Other than Carmichael every other OC is calling plays, so why would they have come here to not call plays?

We haven't missed out on anyone for OC. DC is probably a different story but still tonnes of options.

This is no doubt advice from his brother to get him started. It’s probably wise for most young first time head coach coaches to have an experienced guy helping out. Good old boy Hackett has been around and has seen what works and doesn’t work. As long as it’s LaFleur’s offense and he’s calling the plays, Hackett shouldn’t be much of a threat to spoil the show.
