“Multiple sources told ESPN that Spygate and Deflategate, the twin cheating scandals during the Patriots' championship run, came up in deliberations among voters. A voter who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Polian, an ardent Kraft supporter and former general manager of the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts -- a chief Patriots rival during their dynasty -- told some voters he believed Belichick should "wait a year" before induction as penance for Spygate.“

So because Belichick beat him to oblivion that he was too butthurt to vote him in and convinced others to do the same.

This should be Polian’s last ever vote for HoF. Pathetic loser

To be fair, Brady never won anything without being on the best team in the worst division in the league

The playoffs still await.

You might, by stroke of luck, skate your way into a title opportunity, once... maaaaabye twice. Not 8 times, winning 6.

True. But you have a huge advantage when you are basically guaranteed a playoff berth from day one.
not to mention, the jets, phins, and bills were sooo bad for most of that time, the Patriots never had to show their best stuff during the season...so getting tape to scout them prior to a playoff game yielded sketchy results at best.

Joe Montana won 4 having to fight tooth and nail the entire way.

6 titles... 8 superbowls. Even if the division sucked, they still had to go through the playoffs and to do it EIGHT times is beyond comparison on any level.

And if strength of division is your criteria, the NFC "West" of Joe Montana's NFC West was a joke, and I LOVE Montana, I think he's an all time great. But he was going against the 1980s Rams, Saints and Falcons. He was NOT fighting tooth and nail against those dumpster franchises.

Montana DID have to fight through some strong Giant, Cowboy, Bengal and Bears teams. Just as Brady had to battle through the Colts, Steelers, Ravens, Seahawks and Chiefs.

Brady is the best QB, Bill is the best HC... I don't think there is a question about it.

The Rams, Saints, and Falcons were their divisional opponents in those years. The Niners won the division 12 times between 1981 and 1995 with the Rams, Falcons, and Saints winning it once each during that time.

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach and Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson isn't happy about Bill Belichick reportedly being snubbed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Johnson took issue with voters who held Spygate against Belichick, dropping some pretty massive revelations about how the Cowboys — and other NFL teams — operated during Johnson's time as head coach.

Legendary New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady isn't a fan of the report that Bill Belichick was not inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Brady made his first public comments on the situation Wednesday, saying he didn't understand the argument for keeping Belichick out of the Hall of Fame.

I guess one can't break the rules and cheat and not expect some kind of reprisels. Yes Billacheat deserves to be in the HOF but I have zero issues with him having to wait. In fact I fully agree with the slap on the wrist.
Now I'll really run this off the tracks, should Pete Rose be in the HOF?

Belichick and the patriots were already punished ages ago. It makes zero sense to punish him again 20 years later. That’s just haterade.

And yes, Pete Rose should be in the HoF. As should Bonds, A-Rod, McGwire, Clemens, Sosa, etc.

Has any other coach been a first ballot hall of famer?
Does it matter has any other coach coached in 12 total Superbowls and won 8? 6 as a HC?

Yes, there are coaches who were first-ballot Hall of Famers. The only coaches who were inducted on their first attempt are:
  • Don Shula (1997)
  • Chuck Noll (1993)
