It’s the system.
Look at perennial winning teams and they all have one thing in common.
A system.
Look at the 49ers. They draft a guy like Trey Lance. If it was us and how that turned out we’d be in limbo for years to come. They draft a guy with the last pick in the draft. They insert Brock Purdy who would ultimately fail anywhere else or be relegated to a backup position. They simply plug him in a boom, he and the 49ers compete.
Shanahan and the system.

Move on to the Rams. They cut a guy like Kupp. What happens? The draft a guy ( I believe in the 7th round) named Puka. They plug him in and boom, he excels and the Rams stay competitive.
Sean McVay and the system.

Sean Payton. Within 8 games he dumps Wilson. Enter Bo Nix who was not the top rated qb in the draft by any means. What happens? Boom they are the top seed in the AFC.
SeanPayton and the system.

Andy Reid. Sure he has MaHomes but you look at the players they lost along the way who were major contributors. Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt and so on. They simply plug other players in and continue to win. Why?
Andy Reid and the system.

How long will it take for a position coach an OC moving into their first head coaching job establish their system? How long does he get with a dysfunctional organization.

Look at the Cardinals, Raiders, Browns, Jets. Perennial losers. Why?
Your point is well taken, but Shanahan, McVay, Payton, and Reid will all be in the HOF. They’re just phenomenal coaches that were a combination of being great play callers and being leaders of men. It definitely will take longer with a dysfunctional organization like the Cardinals & neither Bill nor Michael ever exhibited the patience to allow that to happen.

NOT THAT I WANT HIM, but Tomlin is the perfect guy for the Cardinals.

Very good defensive coach
Ultimate conservative philosophy
Run the ball
Use to not having a qb.
Never under .500 which here would be a great improvement.
Not good enough to win the brass ring but probably will not produce a 3-14 season.

Scary

Bucs really messed up keeping Bowles another year.

Luckily that helps us cause that would be a prime location as well.

With the Cardinals in the NFCW, Tomlin would never maintain winning seasons. The only way I would support his hire, is if he demands that Kyler is his QB. Otherwise, a hard no from me. I live in Steeler country. I’ve watched his career very closely. He’s beaten up Cleveland & Cincinnati (56-19-1) & his record without Big Ben is nothing to write home about. His games against quality coaches is painful to watch. Shanahan, McVay, and McDonald would outcoach him BADLY.

I agree. But in the eye of Michael Bidwill I can see him thinking it would be a home run.

Alot of posturing going on. Once the Harbaugh domino falls hopefully we will see other vacancies filled.

And then there were nine.

And then there were twenty-three.

Yes, only twenty-three NFL teams currently have head coaches. Nearly 30 percent of all jobs are open.

The Steelers’ job could be the most attractive of them all. For starters, they don’t fire coaches. Also, it’s a national fan base and a team that is part of the fabric of the NFL. What football coach wouldn’t want to coach the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Plenty of coaches will want that job. College coaches. NFL assistant coaches. Former NFL head coaches. And maybe even head coaches who currently are employed by other teams

I think you mean 16 points to the patriots. Patriots have the front runner for MVP at QB.

Unless you mean a couple weeks ago when he gave up 20 points to the Texans.

Well, maybe they could speed it up a little by hiring a guy from those teams. Could be Mike LaFleur or Klint Kubiak as a head coach, or it could be Robert Saleh or Chris Shula as the HC with an OC from one of those teams.

In my perfect scenario it would be Salah with Mike McDaniel or if he brought Klay Kubiak with him from San Francisco. Chris Shula is on staff with Nathan Scheelhaase who is considered a major offensive-minded talent, and Shula also has connections with Thomas Brown, who the Cardinals want to interview. I am not saying there is a big plan of combining those two, by the way.

I think my point is that you obviously need to start somewhere to create that system and infrastructure, and it just makes sense to me to start with a guy from within a successful team structure.

I like Salah. With this many openings SF is almost certain to lose him. With the right OC he would be a good get imo.

For anyone who has time to kill, or cares what other owners in the NFL say at a press conference when they fire their coach... listen to today's Steve Bisciotti press conference. Compare it to Bidwill's pathetic presser 2 weeks ago.

Direct, honest, transparent. Must be nice being a Ravens fan and having full faith in your owner.

Quick question. Does anybody even have VJ in their top 3 choices? I'm guessing he's bottom 3 to almost all.

The guy I'm interested in is LaFleur from the Rams.

Guys I want no part of, VJ, Saleh.

I wish I knew more about Weaver. He seems like a solid choice on the surface.
I don't mind Saleh or Vance. I think they both are detailed and get the most out of players. I also think they both took rough jobs their first go. Maybe they would do some things different with the experience they have gained since and could have solid staff choices.

It's just tough for me to get too high or low on most of the candidates.
