Token meet the quota interview as far as I’m concerned.
THIS IS GROSS. I HAVE READ THIS SO MANY TIMES ON THIS BOARD SINCE IT WAS ANNOUNCED. The latent racism in calling a black coach's interview a "Rooney Rule" interview is so icky. Whether you (the royal you, slan, this is for everyone who has posited this)mean it that way or not, you are essentially saying that the ONLY reason a black coach is getting an interview, is because he is black. As if running a top 3 D on a 14-3 team isn't enough. Jesus H Christ.

Every one of you who is comfortable typing this sentiment needs to check yourself. Im out on the topic.

Im not responding to any inevitable criticisms of my viewpoint. Go look in a mirror.

I will take the bait.

You could do much worse than McCarthy, especially if you plan on bringing Kyler back.
I don’t think McCarthy is any better than Jonathan Gannon TBH.

He is worse than Harbaugh, who is a better leader and program builder, etc. but neither, IMO, advances the Cards from where they are today.

We need a battle tested/experienced HC that can come into the NFC West and go head to head with the big boys.

The other option is to take a risk on finding a rising star with no HC experience and Cardinal history (the past 75 years) shows we haven't done that well.

Culture builder. He would demand, and need to be given, say over remodeling the front office in Baltimore's image. Ideally he'd bring a new GM with him from the Baltimore front office. None of which will ever happen with the Cardinals but that would be the dream....
which is why Monti would never hire him.

I think you can cross any HC with a past success off the list. Monti is going to hire a coordinator that he'll have control over. Mikey even mentioned in the presser about the new HC hires turning it around quickly as in Coen, Canales, Johnson. That's what he's going to be looking for. Just like he hired KK because he was trying to get the next McVay.

Brother I get we disagree but if you keep saying stuff like this we may need to send a sheriff over to do a well check.

You mean exactly what the “big boys” in the division were when they were hired?

This is a good point and I’m sorry I raised it.

Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver is also getting an interview with the Cards
Interesting candidate! I really like him and he exudes the patience required to deal diplomatically with Bidwill. He has a wealth of experience including working with the offensive side of the ball on the run game, which figures to be a key issue. He’s very DL focused. While never a HC, he’s been an Assistant HC, so he knows the requirements. His players typically love playing for him. I suspect if he comes it might encourage Campbell to stay. CC did leave Miami, but they would seem to share philosophy. Campbell has been very complimentary of Weaver in the past. I really would like multiple interviews, but this guy is a winner who so far is not being widely sought after. Again his opinion on the QB situation may be critical.

I would argue that they have shown that they don't want that. All of the five, they have requested interviews with, have knowledge about being a head coach. Granted, with Weaver it is an assistant head coach, and with Kubiak it is from growing up with a dad being a head coach, but the point is that they still know what it takes.

truth is...the viewpoint could also simply be that they dont believe that particular coach would actually be hired for the position regardless.
In which case, if Mike and Monti both know they will not make the hire..but schedule the interview anyway...
why would you suggest they had the interview?

From several reports it seems to me that Weaver is mostly a head coach-type and not necessarily a great play caller.
