Don't get your hopes up. MO is still in place and as we've seen in St. Louis with their MO (the baseball Cardinals version), a GM can completely tank an organization. Not saying our Arizona Cardinals have not been in the dumpster for several years, but as the most unattractive head coaching opening of those currently available, the odds are not too good that the Cardinals will get a truly impactful head coach.

My gut reaction is do we really trust Ossenfort to pick the right guy? He picked the guy that was just fired. Just saying.
I believe our last GM was able to pick three head coaches for us...

The Cardinals are what they are, not because of a GM, not because of any HC, past or present, but because they have a buffoon of an owner. His father was always the joke of the NFL, and now he’s taken up the mantle also. Go watch his interview with MO yesterday. I think the guy has literally lost his mind. Yesterday, I said that our future as fans would be to somehow occasionally luck into a winning season here and there. I take that back. We literally have zero chance of that happening. The Bidwills, father and now son, have shown their a$$ so much over the decades, that they will ALWAYS get the least qualified coaches moving forward. MO looked absolutely miserable, could barely get words out of his mouth, and for all intents and purposes, is a dead man walking. If he had any self respect, he would tell Bidwill to pound salt, leave this dumpster fire now, and keep whatever reputation he may still have around the league intact. The rest of the league knows what Bidwill is & would understand. I’ve been around long enough to have seen both father and now son. Some may say that Michael isn’t as bad an owner as his father was. Maybe, maybe not. Doesn’t matter really. They are both pathetic owners & if the NFL doesn’t give a damn, and they don’t, this tragedy of a franchise will continue on until another Bidwill family member continues the shame.

Based on what the clowns were talking about yesterday it sounds like they have a bunch of guys currently in the playoffs on their list. So it’s going to be a minute before we interview Brad Idzik.
Clowns is being kind. MO looked 100% the part of a dead man walking. Does anyone still question all the court cases from previous employees regarding Bidwill??? Michael is far worse than a clown. Buffoon may be more applicable. Shame on the NFL for letting this travesty of an ownership continue for as long as it has.

Jim Schwartz

Almost all of the top defenses in the NFL come from the Schwartz-concepts and philosophies. Unless he replaces Stefanski in Cleveland, he should be available.

Robert Saleh

He is my favorite. I am not sure exactly why, but I have always thought of him as an impressive leader. Even when he was with the Jets, I thought he did a good job. Actually, his best selling point might be what has happened to the Jets after he left.

Klint Kubiak

He is obviously a very bright coach. I am not a fan of his running game, but his fingerprints on a great offense is undeniable.

Mike LaFleur

I think that LaFleur gets too little love. He has become my second favorite after Saleh. He was brought into the NFL by Kyle Shanahan, and he followed Shanahan to Atlanta where he was part of the Falcons’ staff that went to the Super Bowl. Then Shanahan took him with him to San Francisco, and later he was handpicked by Sean McVay. Yes, there were the bad years with the Jets, but not only did he have to play four quarterbacks in his time there, he also had a winning record with Zach Wilson. I think his resume is quite impressive.

Matt Burke

Since he took over playcalling for the Texans’ defense in the beginning of this season with his Schwartz-defense, they have been absolutely fantastic. He was the defensive line-coach in Arizona in 2022, but was taken away by the Texans. Maybe Bidwill really liked him.

Brian Flores

I have always been impressed with Flores. From declining the owners wish in Miami, to actually making Miami competitive instead, and later his defensive playcalling. I also think that his coaching approach reminds me a bit of Bruce Arians. I still haven’t understood why anyone argues that Bidwill would not want Flores because of the legal complaint, when Bidwill scheduled two job interviews with Flores after the lawsuit. It makes no sense to me that it very often comes up in posts.

By the way, do you remember that Bidwill also brought in Flores for a job interview in 2018 before hiring Steve Wilks? I remember that Bidwill and Keim were very impressed by Flores, but in the end deemed him too inexperienced (he had not even been a coordinator at that point). Bidwill clearly likes him.

Jesse Minter

Bidwill and Ossenfort have seen firsthand in-division how Mike McDonald has done wonders with the Seahawks. Minter has taken almost the exact same route in coaching, and supposedly they are also quite alike as people.

David Shaw

I don’t have any explanation behind this choice other than I think it would be interesting (thank you to the poster who brought him up. I am sorry that I have forgotten who).

P.S. The rumors are that Matt LeFleur might be in danger in Green Bay. If he is let go, I think that Bidwill will offer him everything, and I would like it. I think he could rival McVay and Shanahan as great offensive minds.
GB would be dumb to let him walk.

Top OC and DC Candidates per Pro Football Network

Top OC Candidates

Top DC Candidates
This list has some great candidates.

I’ll admit I’m hesitant about hiring any defensive minded coach, but there are some intriguing names on the list. As far as defensive coaches, Jesse Minter’s name tops the list for me. The Chargers have experienced a massive turnaround on defense under his leadership (though you could argue this is really bc of Jim Harbaugh)

This quote from the article was fascinating:

“Minter’s approach centers on simplicity and unity. He instituted Saturday defensive meetings where players from each position group share their mindset and key focus in front of the entire defense and coaching staff.”

Vance Joseph has done great in Denver, but I’m not sold on him…Maybe I’m still jaded from when he was last here.

And Brian Flores has done great in Minnesota, but he just comes with a bunch of baggage with his lawsuits.

FWIW, I don’t think the division competition matters as much to candidates, in part because you expect the composition of the division to evolve every year.

But I think the QB and ownership situations are huge deals for any candidate with options, including the willingness of ownership to pay for quality assistants and coordinators.

Being tied to Monti will also be a factor for a competitive hire.

Disagree. I think candidates look at HCs in their division, and quality of team, and it factors heavily. There's been no cycling with the 3 teams in our division. At least two have made the playoffs for the last how many years? When was the last time any of them had a losing record? When the Niners drafted Lance because of injuries?

Niners, Rams and Chicks have this division locked down. Practically guaranteed 10 wins each per year for the foreseeable. The only possible change is if Stafford retires and McVay decides to join him or move on. But they have two 1st's this year and I expect them to turn them into capital for next years QB class. Or draft someone like Nussmeier and have him learn.

I’ve lost all interest in this team. Can’t watch them any more. Check scores on my phone app, but that’s it. When they didn’t sign Sean Payton (not a surprise) I checked out. Tough to overcome 35 years of mostly disappointment. Of course now I’m again hoping against all hope they’ll sign a HC and a couple of FA’s that give me hope for better results….

A. John Gruden (vibe is right in U.S. now)
B. John Harbaugh
C. Mike Mcarthy
You mean the vibe of racism and misogyny? lol

I don't get the Gruden love at all. He didn't win crap without Dungy's players and the Raiders were an absolute dumpster fire of a roster he put together, not to mention he'll never be in the NFL again with the way he left the Raiders.
