Back in February, the Cardinals announced they were going to drop $100 million into renovating the Tempe practice facility, with planned completion by 2027. That announcement just so happened to come right after the NFLPA gave the team an F grade for their weight room, D- training facilities, D- owner grade - one of the worst report cards in the NFL. Convenient timing.

Bidwill got humiliated. For the first time his ineptitude was on full display thanks to this anonymous survey. The team facilities are flat out embarrassing and Bidwill was rated as one of the worst owners in the NFL.

Fast forward six months and what do we have? Nothing. No renderings, no blueprints, no updates, not even a fluff PR video. Meanwhile, the Patriots (who ranked above the Cardinals - barely) announced their upgraded training facility and immediately rolled out detailed plans and renderings - NBC article. The Broncos (B training room and B weight room) announced a $175 million renovation. The Bears (B+ and A) announced $100 million renovation.

Local coverage has already pointed out how tight-lipped the Cardinals are being:

"It does raise the question: What kind of Taj Mahal are the Arizona Cardinals planning to build for the $100 million they say they plan to put into their training facility at Warner Road and Hardy Drive in south Tempe? They’re not saying – yet. They would have an interested audience at Tempe City Hall, given that the city owns the land and the buildings that the Cardinals lease as their corporate and training headquarters. Under terms of their lease, they can make minor alterations to the facility without getting Tempe’s permission, although they have to let the city know what they’re doing."

So I’ll just say this - this feels like vintage Bidwill. Smoke and mirrors. Say the right thing when he’s under fire, then go radio silent once the headlines cool down. It wouldn’t be the first time.

Was this announcement ever real? Or was it just a stunt to calm down players and fans after getting embarrassed with that F grade? It looks like Bidwill is doing what he’s done for decades: talk big, spend little and hope everyone forgets.

It's wasted money. They need to move. The current location is limited in size and potential. Arguably they have already outgrown it and will almost certainly need to move within the next 10 years. Best to do it now.

The Rams are building "Rams village" on a 100 acre Kroenke site and we're putting lipstick on a pig on a small leased facility.

Then why'd he open his lying gob and say he was doing it?

I'm sure they will do it. I'd guess the only difference between the two examples is that the Patriots had already been working on plans before they announced it and the Cards announcement was rushed out due to the NFLPA poll and they had nothing in the bag. Takes way more than 6 months to draw up comprehensive plans to spend $100m on upgrades. All kinds of site surveys and structural assessments etc before you even get to the plans.

But it's all a waste of time as they need to move. Or, take over some of the neighbouring sports complex if possible and pay for that to be relocated (which i probably isn't).

If nothing else, it gives the fans a big reason NOT to get too excited about the upcoming season. Caught me just in time as I was feeling pretty good going into this season. And, even if we win the SB, I'll have something to complain about.

By the time Bidwill spends $100M to upgrade his facility, other organizations will have already completed $500M state-of-the-art complexes.

quit calling it a facility mikey - tents don't cut it - glad we pay players now but this cheap bastard take is common knowledge - knowing mikey he plans to fix it when we start winning - we all know what that means - we preseason in july and august in phx az and can't figure out why our giant d linemen who've never seen 110° can't keep their bodies hydrated - the cramps and muscle fatigue due to heat should be eliminated entirely but nah

If they want to stay in Tempe, there is soooo much open land near there to build on. It seems to be that if they moved, Tempe Parks could utilize the existing facility for more sports and the building for other purposes. They have been trying to build on that space around Ikea and Lifetime since before I left 13 years go and it is still empty.

There’s a crazy amount of underutilized land there. Tempe is landlocked so I’m sure it’s pricey, but I’m mystified how so much of it is still underdeveloped.

Michael could’ve bought the old Fiddlesticks facility and expanded over there. Must be a ton of weird title properties or something.

thats the question I think. the high end players live in PV and Scottsdale (mostly). Same for Mike B. I think a Scottsdale address would have better national vibe with players nationally.

put it on that land where the Coyotes wanted to go

Absolutely this. We have such a small footprint in Tempe, whatever renovations that are made now can only bandaid the situation for so long. Colleges programs these days are putting TONS of money into their training facilities, it's a massive part of their recruiting tool. No player is going to be impressed with our setup when a lot of them just came from colleges with bigger, newer, more advanced facilities than what we have.

And get rid of Tempe’s cherished land fill?!

Here we go comparing the Cardinals to the Patriots again. It's obvious by the timelines that you're posting, that the Patriots probably already had their upgrades in the works, which is why they were able to roll out plans and renderings rather quickly. Approved drawings approved and things to a place where you would want to make them publicly known. 6 months is no big deal.

Comparing Bidwill to any of the other NFL owners is laughable. He's a broke joke compared to the likes of Kroenke.

They need to get out of Tempe.
If it wasn't for those selfish ************** ***** the stadium would have been at Rio Solado just inside Mesa.
Tempe, ASU, every entity in those zip codes have done nothing but screw the Cardinals since the day they got off the bus. Mike needs to wash his hands of them all.

For a training facility...imo, they should talk to the tribes. Get some of that land along the 101 by Scottsdale on a 200 year lease.

I didn’t try to warn you I did. If you have something to add to the thread be my guest otherwise that’s a trolling comment on your part. If you start doing it after being warned you’ll find yourself taking a break.
