On offense.

1 - RG. Hernandez tried but couldn't finish only playing 38% of snaps. Adams came in and stood on the field for 62% of snaps. Not great.

2 - Weaver played 68% of snaps and earned 3 targets which he turned into 1 catch for 9 yards.

3 - Michael Carter and Bam Knight split the RB duties and showed why they are PS level players. They are playing because Trey Benson is made of glass.

4 - Ugh.

5 - Pharoah Brown played in this game. Tip out with an injury.

6 - Josh Fryar played in this game. Christian Jones out with an injury. Same with key FA signing Jonah Williams.

On defense.

1 - Walter Nolen left early (10% snaps) due to a knee injury because Cardinals fans aren't allowed to have nice things.

2 - Will Johnson was out which caused the Cardinals to lean heavily into their 2024 draft DB investment. Max Melton stepped up with 24% snaps. Elijah Jones got 0%. DTD got 0% due to injury. Melton and Jones were held off by Denzel Burke, Kei'trel Clark, and Darren Hall. SMB did not play.

3 - Ojulari played 35% snaps and stayed healthy.

4 - Congrats to Jordan Burch who registered his first sack. Nice to see.

5 - LBs played in this game.

6 - PJ Mustipher played in this game. Justin Jones and Bilal Nichols did not.

This game highlights why Monti is absolute buns. He passed on the 2023 FA class (to get the books right...ok *eyeroll*) only to go full Charlie Brown on almost the entire 2024 offseason. Legitimately people on this board could have done better.

Why the actual fudge did Walter Nolen only get 10 percent of the snaps? Did he get hurt? I nodded off a while watching because I was too cozy in my chair.
i could be wrong -- i think he hurt his knee on his TD

they had him on the bench afterwards looking at it -- he did get cut by the guy trying to stop him

I think Monti needs to go

that said, i have a hard time dinging him for signing three guys who had a track record of being available only to see all three get injured (repeatedly). I do think he grossly overpaid for Nichols and Jones, so there is that.

on the GM problem

with the exception of Jonah, this is the OLine Monti wanted. It sucks losing a RT, but that is also ordinary business in the NFL. A good OC can work around one weak link in the line.

the issue is they have 3 weak links, so it becomes difficult to manage.

I mean...2024 is the offseason that will eventually lead to his termination. You can't spend that much money and use that many draft picks so ineffectively. Especially after you choose to gut the roster. The arrogance of his plan was evident from day 1.

He hurt his knee when he scored his TD.

Looked like a cheap shot.

I think the lack of contributing players from all those picks is 100% a reason to let him go.

I believe there was a plan from him that was the org was going to let younger, cheaper players develop at the expense of winning in the short term so that in year 3 and beyond, we would have young base of talent on the roster in its prime -- and you can then add some experienced FAs to that to fill holes.

That plan is fine -- and i think the fan base understood it. BUT YOU BETTER WIN IN YEAR 3!

he hasnt, and in fact-- the roster looks nearly as bad as when he started.

I mean, this group did force four turnovers. That's a lot.

There are some pieces to build around on D. We need better depth.

But sure, MO's hopes on the CB room pinned to Sub-Zero, and the defensive "rebuild" is hanging on by a thread.

Attacking injuries in guys with decent history seems hard to adjudicate. The Niners GM could be attacked for the same issue. Seems more like mostly bad luck.

If STV never got injured, I’m sure he would have been taken Melton’s snaps.

I know you say DeJean, but Lassiter is really the one that got away imo @Chris_Sanders

It's every team's plan to build through the draft. It is the most successful way to build long term. What most teams understand is that you need to also build short term success. It's why the best teams use all of the tools in the toolbox, not just the draft and develop tool.

Monti's arrogance was that he could take a bad roster, get rid of almost all the remaining talent on it, and then draft well enough to field a winning team in year 3. Draft picks bust. Players get injured. There is a lot of variance year to year. That's why you have to use FA dollars and not just try to push cap space ahead to your competing year in 2025. That's why you can't use a 3rd round pick on a 5th or 6th CB. I don't know what part of development falls on Monti, but he either hasn't been able to acquire the players to develop or he didn't hire they staff to develop them. Ultimately, his plan has failed.

All Monti seems to have is bad luck. The overarching philosophy is that you can't plan for injuries so you better have a roster talented enough to overcome them. Monti has tried to bare bones the roster the entire way.

Monti fails because he banked on both Will H recovering from an injury AND Adams being not horrible. He missed on both. Gaines = miss. C Jones = miss. Adams = miss. E Brown = miss. Jonah Williams = miss. that's just not good enough unless your plan is to draft for the next GM.

Monti fails because he banked on Conner staying healthy AND drafted Benson who never had a large workload in college to be able to handle a pro workload. Neither worked out.

Monti fails because he spent 11 mil on a mid player in SMB who turned out to be a flake, used two 2nd round picks, two 3rd round picks, a 5th round pick, and a 6th round pick on CBs only to have the 3rd best CB on the roster be an UDFA.

Monti fails because his big DL upgrade wasn't until year 2 when he put all of his eggs in the Justin Jones, Bilal Nichols, LJ Collier and Darius Robinson basket. Darius Robinson has been the best player out of those three.

Monti 100% can't miss on shots he doesn't take and he has consistently bargain basement shopped every chance he can get. The roster shows this. He probably needed to sign twice as many free agents as he did to get even start getting the roster to the level it needed to be instead of pushing cap space ahead.

The miss was trading back instead of trading up IMO. At worst, Monti should have stayed put in a perceived top heavy draft.

Me too. Had just got back driving from AC after a weekend of overeating and heavy drinking. I was admittedly already expecting to lose so I really couldn't keep my eyes open.

Guys just because Benson has gone on IR in both seasons he’s been a professional and averages 1 trip to IR on every 46 rushing attempts means nothing.

Guys TRUST

Sweat
Fiske
Dejean
Lassiter

Monti missed out on all of them by trading down for a player who is apparently struggling to stay on the field already. What a dope.
