Except not at a big number and he can partially solve two issues: big defender and distributor. I don’t think he’s any kind of long term solution. I see him as a cost effective roll of the dice. As you’ve noted, our record doesn’t matter, so who cares if he flames out on a relatively small contract? We know he has skills we need. Whether we get them outta him or not is open to question. But who is the alternative that can bring his two skills? If no one, why not grab him for cheap?
Exactly. He brings very versatile defense and he can distribute. He is exactly the TYPE of player that would work well with Book and Green on the court. And that type of player is rare. However, he has had back issues and mental issues. So its a risk. Keep the salary risk low, and the potential reward high, and it could be worth it. You have to try things like this when you have little draft capital.

Looks like the Suns arent interested, so fine. Maybe they know more about his back or brain than I do.

One word… attitude. I don’t want that dude’s attitude anywhere near all the young guys we have.

This is a legit concern.

maluach averaged 10 pts per game playing with point guards who had their own self interests in mind

maluach averaged over a block per game because it's in him - he was blocking other big's too not just midgets

i liked watching maluach and oso play together but i wanna see gillespie added the mix - and brea lying in wait because i aint forgot about 3 pointers

but back to oso - he's grabbed a lot of rebounds while maluach provided the rim protection - and he too will benefit from the less selfish more established gillespie

if fleming can keep up with this group we are in business baby

Ideally we'll see the Pick and Roll game with Book and Maluach that we hoped to see with Book and Aytom. Jalen and Maluach will be a good PnR duo as well. Maluach scan pop out or roll hard.

Is it all the mentions about Simmons that brought on the spidey sense?

Oso could never run point for any team. His handles and vision aren’t that level. They’re good for a big.
Neither can Simmons now. It's crazy to even act like that is a possibility when he will never shoot a jumper. Putting him in that role is destruction for your offense.

We will eventually, but I wouldn't expect much of it this year. His shot and ball handling isn't good enough yet.

I just want to point out none of them played well in summer league - and they were going against other rookies from other teams.

I am not sure how you could be optimistic when 5 guys that might get time for our team did not even look competitive in the summer league.

you must've missed the first two games aka the only games they played together - them playing together is what the post was about - all 3 (maluach brea oso) did well imo and btw oso and dunn (oso inparticular) had a great summer league - i also know it's the summer league and rookies - come on man

I mean, he could NEVER shoot and he effectively ran offenses for playoff teams. He literally possesses the SKILLS. Whether his back or mentality allow him to do so is certainly a question. But it’s not his lack of pg skills. Again, Oso is not that guy.

Also, if Oso ever want's to be that guy, he can learn it from Simmons closeup. Oso's future in this league is either to emulate Rodman or Simmons or Draymond Green.

I didn’t miss any games. I did not like what I saw for the most part. Dunn and oso were improved but didn’t dominate. Brea was good, but maiuach and Fleming were underwhelming.

I mean I am holding out hope they all develop, but I was hoping for much better showings.

I am not saying I want oso playing point. I want book playing point.

I think Simmons absolutely sucks. If he can’t get playing time on a sorry nets team that really says it all.

Here is the behind the scene video of the Suns draft.

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

At about the 8:30 mark on the video, Brian Gregory says taking Koby Brea and putting him on a two-way contract, opens up what the Suns can get on the free agent market. It gives a hint as to what the Suns were thinking.

Now the question, is there a free agent on the market they still want.

A few names available are: Gary Payton II, Jared Butler, Precious Achiuwa, Chris Boucher, Bones Hyland and Russell Westbrook.

That also meant that they knew they were buying Beal out. They had to get past that July 15 lump sum payment to get it to work, I guess.

I am beginning to like Brian Gregory. He just seems to be focused on the task at hand. He evaluates players and picks the ones he thinks are best. He doesn't come to press conferences grinning about how he outsmarted other GMs. I have a hunch he would have chosen Haliburton.
