I had this thought last night. No more day bans, week bans, etc. If you break the rules. You're out. Forever.
I disagree. We don't stop being human, we're going to react in the moment and occasionally step across the line. And when that happens, usually a short term time out is sufficient. But the longer term bans should be on the table though any time a poster repeatedly ignores the rules.

Been out of town and just skimming.

I will say it again been saying it for awhile, what Chris said about permabanned trolls IMO that's the issue. There are people posting here who have no actual interest in engaging in discussion, debate, conversation at all. They just want to piss people off. I referred to it in the past as walk into the room, pass gas and then leave the room for everyone else to deal with the smell.

Once in awhile everyone does that myself included. But the people who literally ONLY do that, or predominantly do that, add nothing. There's a reason people don't like Dillon Brooks.

I get the impression that the mods are just tired of all the drama and don’t want to deal with it anymore. So it’s probably going to remain shut down

I think of it as ding-dong ditch, but I like your metaphor better.

No sports discussion in the P&R forum please.

If posters talked to each other like they were face to face in a coffee shop, things would be so much better.

Is it that hard to be polite?

IMO, bans should be a tool of last resort and cumulative. A person should know exactly where they are before this is applied.

Quick verbal warnings might be more effective to stop some of this from escalating. It works in other forums and I think it works better than bans except for repeat offenders.

Bottom line, if one treats others like they would like to be treated, I think it would lower the temperature considerably.

In fact, if we stopped quoting people who are known trolls, the ignore system would work better.
No it wouldn’t. It falls apart because they can still reply anyway and emoji spam every post they don’t like.

Also certain posters may want to leave the computer turned off if they are drinking. One poster already lost their cool and lost MOD privileges over it.

And "lost their cool" is a massive understatement.

The point is there is a lot to be discussed going forward, i wonder if we just keep the forum shut down for the sake of the MODS
