Meh. They had a chance to do something else. They chose to get Beal. That’s when they were cooked IMO.

The door was shut when the Suns overpaid for Durant. Adding Beal was like dead bolting the door.

The idea is to try and get better, not worse - or at least give yourself a chance to get better. Somehow they managed to strip even more hope away with 1 of only 2 assets we had of any value.
Getting better was never the goal trading Durant. It was about flexibility and getting assets back to parlay into other moves. You can’t honestly believe anybody thought the Suns were coming out of this a better team.

This was all about giving the Suns a chance to retool over a number of years around Book. They likely are not done. You are acting like this deal is going to be it.

No it wasn’t. Had they not been so impatient the Suns could have gotten a player they actually need to shore up the lineup instead of a redundant often injured Beal. I am not saying it would have resulted in a title but that move never made any sense. Even had they done nothing they would have more flexibility than they have now.

Additional information on the five second round draft picks the Suns received in the Durant trade.

However, they didn't, that's the point.

I had almost forgotten the Suns tried to trade for Dillon Brooks before but got the wrong Brooks.

That's still hard to believe a mix-up like that could occur in the NBA.

Never should have traded for KD in the first place, the turnaround on this deal is pathetic.

Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder four unprotected 1st round picks, and a first round swap

FOR

A mid lottery pick, five 2nd round picks, Jalen Green & Dillon Brooks.

Horrendous mismanagement, Ishbia is steering this franchise right into the ground.

Desmond Bane, a non-all star just got 4 first round picks! We couldn't even get half of that for an older (but much better) player.

Understood. My only point was they still had potential moves to make afterward. Once the Beal deal was done, that’s when they were done IMO.

If the Raptors really think they’re an elite scorer away from being a contender, if we were smart, we’d trade Booker to them for every draft pick in the world. They’ll be another classic nothing team with Book up front and we can reap years of draft picks and swaps to start the rebuild.

So this. Unless there is some unforeseen trade on the horizon for a number one, doesn’t this trade solidify this is a multiyear rebuild verses a retool as the Suns are trying to sell to the fans?!!

Keeping Book makes zero sense other than selling tickets. Move Book for a boatload of picks since this appears to be a multiyear rebuild anyway.

i bet nike is even madder at ish than we are - literally put millions into the book campaign and his pocket expecting him to be in the playoffs and all that - lol nike should sue ish - or get their name on his arena for free - not that they'd want it - **** this is depressing

Not to mention we have 2 FRP now to take a shot on a top 10 big and a PG prospect

We walk away with Queen & Saraf and I'm tuning in for the start of the turnaround

The reason I refuse to opine on this trade is because it might not really be completed for a long time. The return on Durant might be spun into something else, like the spare parts acquired for Charles Barkley were spun into Jason Kidd. I'm willing to wait to see what happens.

Brooks I have some reluctance with. We bemoaned getting Grayson Allen because of his thug play. Allen has played like he was neutered upon his first physical with us. Will the same fate happen to Brooks?

I scoff at those who said we have leverage
I scoff at the fact people still think stars don’t have a say on where they go in a players league. That is how it’s always been. There was zero shot at sending KD to a really bad team just because they may have had more assets to give up.

Not that’s how it should be. It shouldn’t.

Reality is that we overpaid to get KD, and he lost value from that point 2.5 years later. Maybe there was a better deal than this out there, but not one that could have been much better IMO.
