Here is where I have shifted with Kyler. I just need him to be a 9 win (minimum) QB. Monti and Gannon aren't getting fired if the Cardinals are winning a minimum of 9 games every year. From there you can be patient and jump to take the next Cardinals QB when the opportunity presents itself.

I understand that in the NFL, being a 9 win team is not a huge accomplishment, but for the Cardinals it definitely is. Especially multiple years in a row. But this franchise has to learn to walk before it can run IMO.
This is the soft bigotry of low expectations.

Have we really transitioned into the "He just needs to be Derek Carr" phase of the Kyler Murray Experience? Because he can't be that. Or maybe he can. I just did some charting of Kyler's per-game passer rating vs. Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield through their first 85 starts. They look basically the same, but Kyler's peaks and valleys aren't as frequent.

Passer rating doesn't account for running (obviously). Without running often and with confidence, maybe Kyler is Derek Carr.

That's depressing. But aiming for nine wins multiple seasons in a row is "Let's be the Saints" thinking. I thought the whole idea of the roster reset/tank job was that we lift the floor for the franchise?

Our former OL coach, now Cowboys OC, said that Kyler "never really wanted to run" despite it working. That there would be some weeks Kyler would specifically go into the game saying he wasn't feeling running this week.

I know one reporter questioned Kyler why he ran less later in the season and Kylers response was I guess I'm usually banged up later in the year.

I think the lack of running is less Petzing and more Kyler has durability problems.
I didn’t see those remarks. Do we have any links?

It's a little game-of-telephone, but great googly moogly if true.
great googly moogly... or no freakin wonder - if you don't want to run you're playing scared - before the game even starts

Heres the comment from our OL coach.

The clip of Kyler saying he runs less later in the season due to probably being banged up was from a random post game press conference and I dont feel like sifting through them all to find it. I dont think any articles were written about it.

I'm not concerned about that comment anymore, Kyler said there were weeks this year where he didn't trust his surgically repaired knee, which is enough explanation for me. Plus he stated he wants to run more in 2025.

We need more than the minimum. I know for a Cards fan, that sounds nice, but I wouldn't trade our situation for the Pittsburgh Stillers situation. Not at all. Mediocrity is not the ceiling, nor should it be the acceptable ceiling.

Honestly looking at one regular season is crazy.

I'd argue that comparing last season is worse for Kyler.

Kyler is a healthy 27 year old that is supposed to be in his prime.

Stafford is an aging 37 year old with nerve damage in his elbow.

They shouldn't look that close, right?

I mean technically Kyler is an aging 27 year old, and I'm an aging 45 year old, and you're aging, and @Mulli is aging. Beats the alternative, amirite?

I just think it's obviously silly to only look at one season and expect to draw many conclusions that override the fact that one is a probable hall of famer and Super Bowl champion and the other is Kyler Murray.

Even just looking ahead to 2025, would you rather have Stafford and McVay or Murray and Petzing?

Let's say K1 statistically has about the same year this year that he had in 2024.

I think then he's our QB1 for 2026.

I'm guessing they go all in on offense the next offseason, with an emphasis on building a dominate offensive line.
If replicates the stats but also replicates the meltdowns I can’t see monti and gannon wanting to tie even more of their tenure to a guy that can’t close.

What I'm really curious about is is he willing/able to cut and change direction on his rebuilt knee like he used to before the injury.

I just don't see how psychologically a person could ever get over that.
It’s not tough. The further you get from the injury the less you even think about. I completely blew out my knee playing football my sophomore year in college. A year later it never even entered my thoughts and I was playing basketball daily, intramural football and softball regularly. An athlete moves on quickly once they test the appendage and find it’s fine.

It depends on the guy. We only hear about the success stories.

If it’s telephone via respected nfl coaches I’m good with it. And holy crap is that craptastic about Murray.
