They don't have to. They can give him 1 more year, get NEs #1 next year and have draft capital to move up if they still aren't sold on hi.
New England arguably has the worst offensive talent in the league. Anything can happen, but it would make NO sense to give up capital when they still can get a very good QB prospect where they’re at.

Pennix is arguably the best QB in the draft on production but he's had 2 full ACL surgeries already. I'm not sure there's anything he can do to move himself up into the top 5 because of the injury history. Has a weird motion but very strong arm, but I think the knees will scare anybody from taking him top 5.

Not a big Daniels fan

Was really hoping Pats would win today but didn't happen
I dunno...rumor has it, repaired ACL's are actually stronger... one might consider Penix to be a much lower risk than the other guys. Especially since he is more of a pocket QB

I agree. Why give up a first when any one of these top 3-4 QB's could turn out to be the best in the draft.

Not sure I buy that. It's not like a pitcher having Tommy John surgery where the elbow comes back stronger.

And keep in mind he tore the same ACL twice. He also had a clavicle and shoulder injury but it appears he's fully back from that given his arm strength.

Because, as of this moment, it appears to be a drop off after the top 2. That could change, but if you're a new GM, you want your guy.

We'll see. How often is anyone right about the draft?

He's right. The way they micro drill now is a medical wonder.

Once we moved out of #2 we screwed ourselves. We would have been in position to get a huge haul at #2 from a team wanting to move up for a QB. As much as I love MHJ...if younhave a top 2 pick in a draft with 2 elite QB prospects...and you're not picking a QB yourself...then it only makes sense to take the best offer. We .ight have been able to similar package to what Chicago did last year...a very good player and multiple 1st rounders.

Now, finishing at #4 is fine, but a trade out is pretty much out of the question. We have to stay put and draft an elite player. The good news is it should be either MHJ or Joe Alt. We have huge needs at both WR and LT...and both go a long way to helping Kyler. it's one of those 2 guys...i would put it at 95%.

Where things could get interesting is trying to get a WR1 if we don't land MHJ with #4. It depends on who our coaching staff zeros in on...but we do have the ammo to move up and get Oduze or Coleman...possibly Nabers depending on how the draft goes. I'm torn as to my preference for trading up to make sure we get our choice...or sticking put and hoping one falls

They did exactly that last year. That exact thing.
Fields was still earlier in his contact and signing a long term extension or picking up his option wasn’t at the forefront.
This year it’s either commit to him or move on.

Plus last year didn’t have a prospect like Caleb Williams sitting there.

He could threaten to sit out without a contract extension but I’d imagine he wouldn’t have too much leverage.

And Fields looks light years better this year. He looked horrendous in 2022 and adequate at times in 2023. If anything, that shows he's developing.

This is where we disagree.
You're probably right. I hate Daniels as a pro and Pennix to me is one of those great college QB who won't translate to thr NFL. QBs are the hardest, IMHO, to predict.
