They save money next year ($10M ish).
My fondest memory of Ertz, is the Seattle game in Seattle, 2 TDs with McCoy as the starting QB.

He is a vested veteran and isn't subject to waivers.
So he instantly becomes a free agent and can sign wherever he wants.
