Was flying to Vegas when NYR announced they acquired D Jacob Trouba from the Jets for D Neal Pionk and the No. 20 pick, which originally belonged to WPG and went to NYR in the Kevin Hayes trade. This is terrific asset management by Jeff Gorton. Trouba is exactly what NYR need.

NHL and NHLPA meeting today. Among topics, next years cap projection. Some believe the cap will be around $82 mil. A lower cap means lower escrow. Obviously, teams with cap issues were hoping it would be closer to $83 mil. Should be finalized this week.

Multiple teams I’ve spoken to are very concerned about this cap forecast. Many fear that when the NHL and NHLPA settle on an upper limit this week, it will be LESS than $82M for next season, or an increase of only slightly more than $2M

It’s not yet a done deal but PHI continues to work toward a long-term contract for pending UFA centre Kevin Hayes and, for now anyway, there’s a sense of optimism. Stay tuned. Curious on the market value for Hayes. Six years at north of $6.5 million perhaps?

Islanders goalie Robin Lehner said he does not want to become a UFA, that he wants to re-sign with the Islanders and he remains hopeful of that happening. "I like the people there. I love my teammates. I love the organization. So obviously I want to be back.”

Lehner said he doesn't care if it's a short-term deal or a long-term deal, he wants to return to the Islanders. "I know the team knows where I stand and I just hope something works out."

PHI and pending UFA Kevin Hayes are closing in on a multi-year contract with an AAV of around $7M. Term expected to be at least six years, perhaps seven. Prepare to take another UFA off the board.

Discussions continue between the NHL and NHLPA on next season's payroll range. It sounds like the 2019-20 salary cap and salary floor may not be finalized until Saturday.
