Boomer esiason was my first thought - he got the record for most passing yards ever in a game 522 - I believe and cards benched him to avoid the bonus - my problem is that Sam is in his prime with many years left - and staff and stupid fans are so zeolus about an unproven rookie qb - that they cut Sam off at the knees - truth is josh May never be as good as Sam had already been - wallow in it

Huh? Bradford was coming off major rehab for the Eagles and he got dinged and missed a couple game for them before he went to the Vikings. Both of those teams, considered pretty good franchises, both paid more on short term contracts than the Cardinals did.

So, why would the Cardinals get criticized while thoe two team would not?

Bradford has been on the IR 3 times his career and missed others due to dings etc;.IR 2013
IR 2014-missed whole season .IR 2017.
Bradford has only played or started 10 games or more 5 times in a 9 year career..Neither Vikes or Eagles have a reputation that the Cards do.Right or wrong Cards still have the backwards bumbling franchise thought that pops in peoples heads .I don`t agree with that thought although every team makes some headscratching decisions at times it seems the Cards are a favorite whipping boy for talking heads.

Not latest news but news to me. By deactivating Bradford Cards do not have to pay full salary to him. Did not know this was allowed.

Not only did the Cardinals bench Sam Bradford after three games, they made him their inactive third quarterback to take money out of his pocket.

He’s doing his best to take the high road, at least.


Via Darren Urban of the team’s official website, Bradford talked to reporters Friday for the first time since his benching, and admitted it wasn’t fun being in his current spot.

“It is challenging,” Bradford said. “But you kind of have to push your pride aside. My role has changed. But I still have a job to do, I’m still part of this team, and I am still going to do everything I can to help this team. It’s just figuring it out how I can do that in this new role.”

The new role includes not getting a uniform on game days, so the team can save money. By making Mike Glennon the backup to rookie Josh Rosen, the Cardinals don’t have to pay Bradford his weekly $312,500 active roster bonuses. While that will cost Bradford more than $4 million if this arrangement lasts the rest of the year, he’s still making $16 million there this year, which allows him to be diplomatic about it...

I wish the article would have stated the actual question that prompted his response. The headline implies that losing money is challenging, but it sounds to me like it was an answer to a question about being benched, not being benched and losing money.

This thread is just putting some truth out there that poeple don't want to hear that's all.

Since you can't change out your team easily it's uncomfortable to understand they may be highly dysfunctional. Trust me they have made great strides on that front but they started out way behind to begin with...

If they end the year as the worst team in football and have the number one pick that'd actually be a good sign cause many years they have arguably been the worst team yet somehow managed not to get the number one pick.

Teams rebuild, this is what it looks like, it's no major deal or trauma and most of those teams are in denial about it like we were but even so this one has been handled about as badly as you can handle it.

You'd hope for better peformance out of the offense given we aren't completely without weapons but the line play on both sides of the ball is bad.

I blame that one squarely on Keim, we should be drafting both lines higher up in the draft than we are IMO.

If Keim didn't want Wilks and wanted someone else then you'd have to give him a pass on that but still IMO the test of a GM is really the core of the team, the lines, if they aren't above average then the GM is below average, JMO.

The same as any franchise. You guys are getting bent out of shape over a common NFL business practice.

Players are CUT for salary cap reasons all the time.

I don't think this counts as common practice shared by all teams, especially successful ones. Many consider that benching to be unwarranted and unfair, don't they?

Here's where you are wrong.

I don't think the Cardinals are cheap, I think they are being Naive to think that some important people, namely the FA they want to attract, will not get that impression based on their behavior.

I don't think they are actually cheap and in this case I think they are taking some kind of principled stand which would be ok if the rest of the NFL shared the same thought process and I don't think they do.

As far as wallowing in my own thoughts... well thank you I will if you don't mind

Well it's called a Roster bonus for a reason. You get it for being on the Roster. He's not on the roster for a reason.
