I thought it would be interesting to see what other posters would consider a surprise pick at #15. I will start off with a few suggestions that would be a surprise to me. My guesses are based on need and what experience Steve Wilks might bring with him from Carolina.

Center Frank Ragnow, Arkansas or center James Daniels, Iowa

I liked the pick of Evan Boehm some years ago, but now I don’t really know what to make of him. I do know that I am not satisfied with Shipley as a starter. In Carolina they have had a cornerstone on their offensive line and really the entire offense in center Ryan Kalil. He has probably been Cam Newton’s best friend since Newton came into the league.

Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, Boise State

The Cardinals haven’t had a really good middle linebacker since Karlos Dansby and Daryl Washington formed an amazing tandem some years ago. Wilks and Al Holcomb has obviously had great linebackers in Carolina where they made it a big priority with three former first round picks in the unit last season.

Tight end Hayden Hurst, South Carolina

Maybe Ricky Seals-Jones continues his progress, and maybe Jermaine Gresham can continue to be somewhat solid, but none of them are even close to a sure thing at the position. With the Panthers, Steve Wilks has witnessed how tight end Greg Olsen has been Cam Newton’s primary target and one of their very best offensive players for years.

Kyle Lauletta or Mason Rudolph. Obviously it would make more sense to trade down to take either but if Keim decides to take no chances, these would be shocking picks at #15.

Vander Esch or Edmunds.

New 4 - 3 defense suggests a different type of inside guy at LB. More a throwback MIKE thumper than a smaller quicker sideline-to-sideline type player.

You can draft that thumper in RD 2 or later ( Micah Kiser,Genard Avery,Juwan Bentley,Mike McCray) without using a 1st rd pick on a MLB

Sam Hubbard...or...Arden Key...

Both are great players...normally any edge rusher is a good pick so long as you aint over drafting. But we have needs and we also have two solid pass rushers...so in this draft a first round edge rusher is actually a luxury,...and its a luxury we cant afford.

any of QB, CB, WR, OLine, DT, MLB... are not surprise picks this year....unless you are counting the "Oh my god Keims a ******* because he could have got that guy in the third round" kind of surprise.
a DE or an OLB would be a surprise...even a RB would be a surprise in the first

Can you give me one instance where this happened? Thought not.

Can you tell me how may Pro bowls his first round picks have between them?

Or better yet, how many of those players we could trade for a 3rd round pick or lower?

That is not what you stated and now you moving the goalposts. Here is what you stated and I quote "The only shock for me will be... If we don't draft 4th round talent in the first round."

The Keim years: (year, 1st round, 2nd round)

2013 - Cooper, Minter
2014 - Bucannon, Niklas
2015 - Humphries, Golden
2016 - Nkemdiche, traded pick
2017 - Reddick, Baker

Zero Pro Bowls for Keim's first round picks. Baker went last year as a special team selection.

No... I'm not moving the goalposts, My opinion is SK can't hit on first round picks, You seem to think he can... You're making it more complicated than it is.

His first round picks have been "meh" at BEST.

The fourth round comment... is because....if you ignore the pundits-mocks etc.... Not one of his first rounders would have been considered a "steal" if we had actually taken them in the fourth.

Maybe Buc?(a 2nd rd pick)
I'm giving you Buc as a late first rounder (if there were a few more expansion teams lol) But his body of work is so limited..... I don't know if I'd give you that one.

Surprise pick: Josh Allen.

Cards trade away the family farm, the milk cow, the old pickup and several year's of draft picks, plus a dozen of Fitz's signed game jerseys to Cleveland to move up to #1 and take Allen.

If they move up to #1 they better take Rosen, Mayfield, or Darnold. ;)

That's why it's a surprise, surprise, surprise. Shazam.

Actually, our new HC got to watch a big dude Cam while he was with the Panthers. SK is constructing the OL to protect a pocket passer (especially Bradford) and a Big Ben clone (or maybe a John Skelton clone) would fit behind that kind of OL.

He has said numerous times if you like a quarterback and believe in him, you draft him in round one... no matter the media consensus, and I think he is absolutely right!
