The failure of Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak to trade for Cousins may have cost them their jobs
The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly were also in the bidding for Cousins and perhaps could’ve offered more, but their refusal to include rookie Brandon Ingram ended any possible trade discussion with Sacramento.

And while not including Ingram may be a smart long-term approach by the Lakers, in the short-term this decision reportedly hastened the firing of Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak and the promotion of Magic Johnson .

I watch the LA local sports show with Mason and Ireland, and they both felt that this Magic taking over and replacing those two was a done deal. That rumor started a week ago. Not being able to land Cousins might have been the final, final straw but it was happening regardless.
