Not sure if this is anything more than Banner saving face, but if true, this would've been an awful deal. The compensation we ended up giving for Kolb was absurd (2nd round pick and DRC). Nabbing Peterson would've been grand larceny.

Sadly, I wouldn't have put it past Graves to make that deal....

Pretty sad to think about it, but glad it didn't. I still was pretty upset they had to trade DRC for Kolb. I was honestly excited to see what Kolb would do, but didn't like how they traded DRC to get him.

Seriously though, he is very similar to Kolb. Sure, he can get out of the pocket and run where Kolb ran... just never forward, but they both are guys who put up deceptively decent base stats while sabotaging any chance their team has of playing respectable offense.

They both screw over their blockers by holding onto the ball too long and often running straight into the areas where rushers are supposed to get flushed, neither are decent downfield passers, both have a habit of throwing check down passes in 3rd and long, both frequently put their team in 3rd and long because of their tendency for negative plays, both get injured non-stop because they don't know how to take a hit, read a blitz, step up into the pocket or deliver the ball in a timely manner.

As a guy who was probably close to getting banned because of his hatred for the Kolb trade, I suspect if we'd shipped the 5th pick for him I'd be off on some other board slumming it.

NEVER trade for an unproven QB. The odds of this working out seem absurdly low.

There is a very good chance you get just as much out of picking a QB in the middle of draft.

Kolb, Whitehurst etc..

Let's not pretend 3/4 of this board wasn't in FULL support of trading for Whitehurst. I had to go on the warpath to rage against trading for this guy, and I got mocked and shouted down constantly for it. Strangely enough, not many people show up to own it, and didn't in the seasons after, when Whitehurst was everything I said he'd be--or wouldn't be lol

I was in favor of the Kolb trade, just didn't know he would become injury prone. Thought he would do better.

I went bonkers over the original trade, that would've been quite worse.

I wanted Whitehurst, but not at the compensation Seattle got him for.

I also wanted Kolb, but it was a hefty price to pay for him...QB premium.

We were just desperate for a QB. We saw what having a great QB meant to our franchise and we wanted it again, at all costs. I wish Kolb had worked out better, but he was made of glass. I thought he played well here and there, he just couldnt' stay on the field long enough to get better.

Why not, Wiz was so desperate he nearly had Whitehurst as his QB. Didn't we basically have a deal with him & he went to Seattle because it was more ca$h?

Because all media reports and all accounts was that a 1st round pick was out of the question.

Ahhh -- the Whis and Graves brain trust.

The top of that draft was as good as you will see for a long time

Really good impact players down into the 20s.

I don't either. It's Banner trying to make himself look better. Saying that trading players being banned stopped it makes no sense when we ended up trading players. Unless he is saying that they would have given them the first was in talks because we thought Peterson wouldn't be there was why, in which case, he is basically saying our luck should have been his luck.

What made ZERO sense about the Kolb deal was that they signed him to a massive contract extension about the same time his plane touched down at Sky Harbor - WHY??!! He was still under contract for another year. Apparently some genius in the front office (cough - GRAVES?) figured they'd save money by locking him up long-term before he goes out and has a monster year in his contract year/first year as a Card. Whoops! Un-freaking-believable.

If you honestly believed that he was the missing piece, which they did at the time. I can see why they do it.
