I think of it every year. Perhaps it's time MB ends the curse and advocates for Pottsville being awarded the 1925 NFL Championship (or at least a share of it). The Cards never really boast about it (it was a few years before Charles Bidwill purchased the club) and it wasn't even won on the field. Plus, it would mean a lot to that small PA city and maybe, just maybe, help the Cards to finally get to the top of the mountain.

Still never buying any such hogwash. Even so the Cards won the title after the supposed curse in 1947. Teams make their own destiny & even the big man upstairs doesn't care who wins & loses.

Blows any talk of a curse out of the water.

This is no more of a curse than the Curse of the Billy Goat the Cubs claim to be plaguing them. It's not like we're losing to some fluke. We lost the Super Bowl because we failed to stop Big Ben and we lost Sunday because we got our asses kicked. Anything before that was due to cheap ownership or that we simply didn't have the horses.

I don't think the 1947 title invalidates anything we're in the modern age of the SB.

There have been 50 of them we were a team in the league all 50 years, never won it once.

Not saying the curse is real I'm just saying.

We can check back in 50 more years and see if you're right. :D

The Lions, Eagles, Browns(although technically that franchise won in Baltimore), Chargers, Bills, Falcons, Vikings all have been around all 50 years as well and haven't won either. Do they all consider themselves cursed too?

One of the top sports graphic designers in the world is based out of Pottsville, PA...he and I have had many discussions about this subject. I get the feeling that this issue is one of the main things that gives Pottsville an identity.

(Here's the designers' website if you're interested - he's a great guy and a fantastic designer: http://joebosack.com)

Maybe a co-championship? I don't know. One of their wins was against an All-Star team made up of Notre Dame players, but two of the Cardinals wins came against teams that had already disbanded.

To put things in context we went 51 years between playoff wins.

25 years with no playoffs.

We're at the top of both lists.

Close enough and they weren't going to win either of those Super Bowls anyway. :D

Not true. Had a great chance in both games. Not being able to score on 1st and goal with big Pete Johnson, even with the 49ers having only 10 players on the field. In '88, Boomer left the field with the lead but the defense couldn't stop Montana. Losing Krumrei on the first play of the game certainly didn't help.

I meant the first two Super Bowls that they missed by not being in the league yet...not the two they played in. :D

Pottsville broke league rules by playing a game outside the league. They lost their own damn championship by not obeying the rules.

This curse is a shame, and Pottsville should stop complaining, and start blaming the management of that team for going against league policy and costing that two-bit town a championship from getting near 100 years ago.

Vikes have the curse of the Ed Thorpe Trophy with which to deal. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Thorp_Memorial_Trophy.

Anyway, I know all about the '47 Chicago Cards winning the NFL Championship, I was just throwing this out for discussion. Not trying to upset anyone.

Which is why there's no such thing of the curse because the Cards wouldn't never won a title afterwards. Plus a curse is only what someone believes & I don't believe in such craziness.

Bolded is not really accurate, they are a 4 bit town at best. Seriously, quite the dump of a town.

Not the first or last time this will be a topic of conversation. It is far to easy to upset posters on ASFN (myself included) :)

Philadelphia had what they called the Curse of Billy Penn meaning the town will never celebrate another title because building were being built taller than the William Penn statue on top of City Hall. The first one was built in 1987 but the drought began after the Sixers won in 1983 so 4 years passed before a building was built taller than the Penn statue. The Flyers were in the finals in 1985 and 1987 and the Phillies in the World Series in 1983 and they didn't lose because of a curse. They lost because they got outplayed. The supposed curse was broken in 2008 when the Phils won again. This was attributed, in part, because someone put a tiny William Penn figurine on top of the Comcast building which is the tallest building in Philly. In short, mismanagement and poor play leads to losses not curses.

No way, that's Yuengling!

On topic, I am very familiar with curses as I am cursed in many ways. A curse like the Pottsville Curse couldn't "jump" the 1947 championship. It's absolutely a curse breaker. It's the same as a slump buster. If you get a slump buster, and then go back on a streak of not getting laid, it's no one's fault but your own.

Trust me, I have experience.
