Right now the Sunday night game for week 11 is the Chiefs at the Chargers. I can't see the NFL or NBC wanting the 3rd and 4th place AFC west teams playing in the showcase game. The two choices that I see are Green Bay at Minnesota or the Bengals at the Cardinals. The obvious choice would seem to be Green Bay and Minnesota considering the draw of those two teams is significantly more than Arizona and Cincinnati and the Cardinals are playing at Seattle the previous Sunday night and hell may have to freeze over before the NFL has the Cards in the prime time slot two weeks in a row.
But Green Bay is playing on Thursday the next week and a Sunday night game would make a short week even shorter and the Bengals only Sunday night game is against the Niners and that game late in the season will probably be less appealing than many others. So we may see the Cards play on Sunday night for two weeks in a row or the NFL could just decide that the Chargers and the Chiefs isn't so bad after all.

CBS will likely protect the Bengals/Cards games from being flexed

Not necessarily, they have a single game that week which typically means that the only markets that would be getting the Bengals vs Cardinals game are the two team markets and the markets that had NFC home games in the early slot. The Chiefs at the Chargers can easily slide into that slot.

Yep, MJ confirmed the other day that the game is being protected by CBS

Ok then. I can't see them moving the Packers into that slot considering the Thursday game and there are really no other intriguing match ups, so I guess NBC will be stuck with the Chargers and the Chiefs.

So CBS gets to protect one of these games:

Raiders/Lions
Colts/Falcons
Jets/Texans
Broncos/Bears
Bengals/Cardinals

We now know they didn't protect our game. Bets on what game they did protect? What were they thinking?

Broncos Bears. TV Ratings would be better than AZ and Cinci in that same time slot. It's not about the best game, its about ability to sell commercial airtime.

I believe that CBS did initially protect the Bengals/Cardinals but I'm guessing they waived that protection after discussions with the NFL. The third and fourth place teams in the AFC West didn't make for an appealing Sunday night game.

I was thinking the Jets with the NY market and that team actually making some noise.

The Bears/Rams game in week 10 has been moved from Fox to CBS. I guess that's what they got for waiving their protection.

With the Bears game, you get Chicago and a huge swath of the rocky mountain states. Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho.

But maybe. I was thinking the Jets have a more limited appeal than the Giants in NY

Meh. That whole state is full of front-runners. Whichever NY team is good, it gets loads of new "lifetime" fans. See: all the new Mets fans in baseball.

:D
