I think it was Jurecki that said today something to the effect that as the season goes on the Cards will see how much they need this guy and will not let him go.

I still say he should never wear a Cardinal uniform again, period. He is a total idiot.

yeah. breaking his girlfriend's collarbone.

that guy is likely one more infraction from likely being kicked out of the league for good. And for anyone who thinks that's hyperbole, think about the fact that he's going to be facing his third lengthy suspension next year... in three consecutive seasons. he's a Cardinal, but at this point he's one of the bad guys in the league.

Agree, not to mention the fact that the NFL may make an example out of him when it comes to their upcoming domestic violence policy. If they take into consideration all his infractions on top of domestic violence he may miss significant time next year as well, if not another full season, as you stated.

I really believe we should just move on from him in our minds, as fans, because it's going to be awhile before we see him play again, if at all.

I also wouldn't be a bit surprised if the organization eventually takes legal action to recoup some of the money invested in him. It's happened before for lesser infractions.

For me personally, I'm done with the dude and don't care if he plays for us again. If he were to play for us again I would actually feel kind of cheap rooting for him, after all the grief I've given other players (Ray Rice and others). If we're going to win it all or make a playoff push, at this point, I'd rather it be without him.

Where do we draw the line? Anyone want big Ben leading our team? He wasn't even convicted but the taste and gut feeling is all wrong. Some people on this board don't want Michael Sam, even at bargain basement prices, if available. Something is wrong with the way we view women. With the way we view athletes and celebrities and omg gays. Let's get a damn grip.

It's kind of weird to me that so many people are against bringing in Harrison but have no problem bringing DWash back. Don't want Michael Sam even though he has more sacks than our entire team. But holy crap when is DWash returning? It's utterly ridic.

My Gawd what an f'n idiot. How is another year long ban (at least) already not guaranteed for that?

I mean had Ray Rice had a reputation for drugs prior to punching his GF it probably would've been a year IMO.

well, according to Jureki and a lot of people here, supposedly, the drug thing has to be looked at separately from the domestic violence charge per the CBA... but I don't know how that can be true. even if it is looked at separately though, with all the heat the commish's office has taken for Rice, I think the hammer's gonna drop hard on domestic violence in the future.

yeah...I'll never quite get the support of one of our guys...simply because he's our guy. All he's done is hurt himself, a woman and the team.

even more ridiculous was Ray Rice getting a standing ovation when he showed up to Training Camp. He beats his wife... on camera... and the crowd goes wild, cheering him on the first time they see him?! What kind of message does that send to anyone, much less women?

Dude I was going to mention the standing ovation in my post. How do they do that with their wife or daughter sitting next to them? How do they even do that with their buddies next to them? I couldn't. I've been married 17 years and my wife and I have had some amazing arguments and fights, mostly when I was younger, but never ever could I do what Rice or Dwash did. Hell no. Rice dragged his girl like a piece of meat and just dropped her ass like it was nothing, without even getting into knocking her unconscious. I honestly can't fathom it. I really cant. And DWash now has a track record, on freaking paper no less, of only caring about himself and abusing his girl. He doesn't care about her, the team, or us fans at all. These fans give him way more love than he gives to his own team or girlfriend. It's totally asinine.

I learned a long time ago to separate the athlete from the person. The Charles Barkley theory of athletes not being role models is more reinforcing today than it has ever been. If we were to cheer or jeer a player over their off-the-court/field/rink transgressions, we'd be left with little to cheer for. If I cheer for Darnell Dockett, does that mean I cheer for someone who spends an inordinate amount of time and money in strip clubs? If I cheer for Carson Palmer, does that mean I cheer for a quitter? I'm going to cheer for John Abraham to get sacks, does that mean I'm cheering for drunk driving? The reality is there are more D-Washs in the NFL than there are Kurt Warners.

And if D-Wash comes away from this punishment a changed man, doesn't he deserve applause for reinventing himself?

Only celebrities and politicians get to reinvent themselves. Mostly because the media loves to beat mofos down and then help them rise again. It makes good TV. The rest of us slog through life spending years attempting to prove we've changed, and even then there's always suspicion and distrust.

The Cardinals were stupid for giving a guy with his issues the contract that they did. And, if they didn't know what kind of guy he was, they should have. They never should have picked up his roster bonus, and now they are paying for it, and will continue to for a while.

I don't disagree with you, at all. No matter how bad the team has been in the past, I've always been proud of them for somewhat sticking to their beliefs in maintaining a roster of "upstanding" individuals.

Michael Bidwill has definitely relaxed this requirement. With that, the team sets itself up to get burned by a few players. Washington screwed us, no doubt... but Tyrann Mathieu seems to be doing well - and he is certainly a guy that Bill Bidwill wouldn't have allowed on the roster.

Granted, I know HB's contract was structured in such a way that if he relapses, we at least minimize the impact to us from a cap perspective, but he is a guy that was literally in jail and out of football. I'm not sure that 95% of other players, who's issues weren't as public, ever would have agreed to a restricted contract. I recall HB's agent saying that they wouldn't agree to it initially... but it got done.

I hope Washington learns from this and grows up. I suspect that with him being allowed to keep $7 of his $10MM bonus... this may not be his last offense.

Go Cards!!!

The NFL drug policy is collectively bargained.

Punishment for legal issues is not, and is at the discretion of the commisioner.

I'm not a moralist, and I don't view athletes as role models, so I really don't care what they do. That is why I have little to say about Washington getting busted, I don't care. It doesn't bother me to have Washington in the team, even after this all settles out. What I do believe is that the team needs to be aware of who it is counting on, and who it invests big money into. For the team to depend on Washington to lead it's defense and anchor the middle of the defense is naive. Even more so is giving a player with his history a large contract that is not very easy to get out of. Now, not only are we out of a starting ILB for a year or two, but we are also out millions of dollars which we could use to replace him.

He gets 7 mill to stay home and get high.

It could of been 10. Plus they still have not given him that check yet. It is a deferred payment. When he gets the additional suspension for the domestic violence charge that 7 million yet to be paid will lower even more depending on the severity of the suspension. That is if they ever give him that check at all, it will go to arbitration before it is all said and done.

Well here we go: "NFL commish Roger Goodell admits 'I didn't get it right' with Ravens RB Ray Rice as league announces new domestic violence policy".

"A first offense under the new domestic violence policy calls for a six-game suspension, while a second offense would result in a lifetime ban."

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...oodell-admits-didn-ray-rice-article-1.1920320

Only question is whether this will apply retroactively to Washington, but since it's at the Commissioner's discretion, i'd expect he won't want to hand down a shorter suspension right after just implementing this new policy. So, looks like six games....

Not that I am standing up for him at all, I don't believe he will ever play for the Cardinals again. But if I were the Cardinals, I would complain that his domestic issue was already done and over with before the Ray Rice incident and there is no reason why they shouldn't have levied the suspension prior to this change. Just because he was suspended for a year should in now way prevent the league from saying, oh by the way he has an additional two games for this domestic issue in 2015.

not shocked by this. gotta move on from DWash unless he's willing to take a major pay cut. He's one strike in either direction from a life-time bad. Can't depend on him, ESPECIALLY since he's probably the most important part of the D.

Looks like we have pretty much have to find 3 LBers of the future moving forward. that sucks out loud.

and the league could probably turn around and say that Cardinals and Washington have no one but themselves to blame considering they pushed the domestic abuse punishment forward, by not only delaying the court case, but also incurring another year long ban in the process.

Unless evidence is produced indicating they had adjudicated the issue prior to the new policy, D'wash has no legal leg to stand on.

The courts or the NFL? I believe this has worked its way through the court system. If it's a delay on the NFL's part, I would think he'd have a leg to stand on.

Not defending DW here. But the timing dynamic in a general sense is interesting.

but it's not a delay on the NFL's part. It's delayed because Washington delayed the trial until AFTER last season and then his own idiocy getting suspended AGAIN prior to this punishment being handed down, delayed it again. he's got no one to blame but himself here for the length of suspension.

Agreed on the source of the blame. My only point is that this has been worked through the court system prior to today; even with the self-directed delays.

Why hasn't the NFL handed down the suspension terms as of yet?

The whole thing is absurd anyway. They should have a 2 game ban for any criminal conviction, followed by a 4 game the second conviction, and a season long thereafter. How should this be any different than the drug enforcement policy? It's utter BS that each case has a judgement call and now domestic abuse has a different policy.

How are players shooting at people, getting in fights, killing people by way of DUI and not getting suspended? The whole thing is a joke. Where is Aldon Smith's lifetime ban?

I'm thinking that it's because with drugs, you're only hurting yourself and the league's image. you beat up someone else, you've now hurt someone to boot. makes sense to me.

I was referencing the NFL.

As the Commish is the final word regarding personal conduct, don't know to who/whom one would appeal.

That said - a league spokesman says that each case will be judged individually.

Have no idea what this means in practice when there seems to be a 6 game minimum if the violent act is established.

Dweed should be punished under the "old" standards in reference to the NFL's DV policy, if not it will go to mediator/court and he will win. The outcome has already been decided by the courts prior to policy change, and since the head moron of the NFL failed to implement the policy that was in effect after the incident, he should in (legalese) fairness be held to the standard in place when he was walking around with his head buried up his fifth point of contact.

How can you say that when there have been two NFL players who have killed individuals because they were drinking and driving?

The standard in place was and is that the Commish is the sole decision maker on personal conduct. Nothing has changed this fundamental. Dwash can go to the courts but they are reluctant to involve themselves in collectively bargained issues. The league would fight and Dwash, figuratively, will be old, grey and penniless by the time the final decision is made.
