Man, bitter stuff. Nash is way more "skilled" than Shaq ever was. He was an oversized, very strong man that was difficult to defend.

IIRC, Nash was awarded MVP in 2005 and 2006. 2006 was the year that the Heat won the Championship, and Wade was the best player on the team. Shaq made it clear he was "letting" Wade be the man.

After looking back it appears Shaq narrowly lost to Nash in the 04-05 season. His numbers were down from his Magic/Laker highs.

Nash made Shaq an All-Star one last time when he came to Phoenix, something I didn't think Shaq had left in him. He should be giving thanks to Nash for making him relevant again.

Duncan would have won in a landslide in '05 but people thought he missed too much time to be MVP. '06 some think Kobe should have won because of his volume scoring #s, but I'm pretty confident Nash deserved it that year with all the team had to deal with.

If Bryant hadn't just escaped from an episode of True Crime, he would have won hands down (and even still, should have won).

Shaq is just pissed because he was a much more dominant player throughout his career than Nash was and yet he only won 1 MVP. But it's not Steve's fault that Shaq decided to cruise through the regular season for much of his career. Whether his in-season vacation attitude was in preparation for the post season or just the result of laziness doesn't matter, it's a regular season award and he'll just have to console himself with his postseason success.

I still don't get why Shaq believed he deserved the 2004-5 MVP. He went to a playoff team... that ended up winning 59 games and didn't make the Finals, losing in the ECF. Nash went to a lottery team, turned them into a 62 win team and lost in the WCF.

And the next year... uh, Shaq wasn't even the best player on his own team, they won 52 games and he missed about twenty of them.

Bottom line is at the time, what player was more valuable to their respective team's success in the NBA? Nash made the Run 'n Gun Suns title contenders; even during the season Amare was injured.

No, it's not a new revelation but it's even more annoying now. It's one thing to react emotionally at the moment but after this long he should have grown up and grown past his disappointment. He probably did deserve more than one MVP nod but it's pretty damned classless on his part to try and tarnish someone else's glory.

Nash earned those MVP's. He's still the Suns' MVP.

He also was a great addition to this team in '08.

I think that this is sour grapes from shaq. he rotted in miami to be honest. he went from being league mvp to a joke overnight. he had one year in miami(the first year) that he was in the mvp discussion, but when they wound up getting eliminated by detroit in the playoffs it was because Dwade(their real mvp) got hurt. that was the year nash rightfully earned the MVP. and it wasn't close. I think the next season you could only make a case that dirk could have won it. but nash won it again because amare was out and the suns still won all of those game. I just think that was dirk's best regular season year and he carried it forward in the playoffs when he put his team on his back and carried them to the finals. dirk won the next season because the voters like his playoff performance from the last season IMO and the mavs won 67 games. but in reality dirk's best regular season ever was probably that year steve won the second time.

the irony is that nash has always been nash. I look at steve and he is a model of consistency every year. dirk as well. when steve played in dallas they had like 4 players that were awesome and a bunch of other guys that wern't worth a damn. nellie ran nash, dirk, and finley into the ground. if they ever had any type of bench or support they would have won championships. when nash went to phoenix he played on a deep team with extremely talented players(especially offensively). and it showed what he can do when surrounded by the right guys.

I'm not going to hate on one of the league's best players. shaq is like charles in the sense that he is a funny guy and is likeable, but he gets emotional and says some things that he shouldn't.
