Crawled Through 5 FB Fields
Yet another snow day here in Snowachusetts, which means yet another Mitch Mock. This time I am going all out---no holds barred.
TRADE: The Arizona Cardinals trade the #5 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to the Detroit Lions for the Lions' #13, #75 and #137 picks and a 4th rounder in 2012.
The Lions desperately want one of the two premier CBs...and with this trade they are able to pick the player they wanted most, Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara.
I am having a difficult time deciding which OLB prospect I like best---between Von Miller, Robert Quinn, Aldon Smith and Justin Houston. Actually, having spent a few hours watching all of them in detail, the player I like best for the Cardinals is Justin Houston. I love Miller's speed, but we already have a smallish OLB in O'Brien Schofield and Houston can play either the strong or the weak side. Same with Quinn...and if the year off hasn't hurt him, he'd be a great pick. Smith is dynamic, but the rawest of the batch and hasn't played much standing up.
So, these are the picks:
13. Justin Houston, OLB, 6-3, 258, Georgia. Quickest first step in the draft. A starter from day one.
38. Martez Wilson, ILB, 6-4, 250, Illinois. Instinctive and versatile. Like Houston, has the size at the position the Cardinals need. Another starter from day one. Plus, he's got edge pass rushing skills and at times can line up opposite Houston in the four man rush.
69. Darvin Adams, WR, 6-3, 185, Auburn. Having the extra third round pick enables this pick---a pick that becomes necessary with the uncertainty of Fitzgerald's and Breaston's situations. This kid is an outstanding playmaker and has the ability to be a go-to WR, which he was for the past two QBs at Auburn. Can stretch the field---which, for our offense, is a huge asset.
75. Rodney Hudson, G, 6-2, 295, Florida St. Best pulling and pass protecting guard in his class. The addition of this Seminole will have Darnell Dockett all a-twitter.
102. Luke Stocker, TE, 6-6, 240, Tennessee. Having a very good week in Mobile providing the ability to sustain his blocks and make nifty catches and RACs. Has good soft hands and ideal height. The addition of this Volunteer will have Dan Williams all a-twitter.
133. Tom Keiser, OLB, 6-5, 244, Stanford. He becomes the Cardinals' poor man's version of Mike Vrable. Can play outside and inside in the 3-4. Good pass rusher---good tackle for loss defender---smart---aggressive---and, like Vrable, can play TE on the goal-line. I still want Mark Herzlich for this role...but, I have a feeling some team is going to take him in the 3rd round. The ESPN coverage of Herzlich and where he goes will be intense.
137. Karl Klug, 34DE, 6-4, 270, Iowa. We need depth at 34DE and this kid is suprisingly active---has a quick burst inside. Is disruptive. And, better yet, is a leader. Klug and Kenny Iwebema will be the Hawkeye backups to Dockett and Campbell.
166. Nathan Enderle, QB, 6-5, 223, Idaho. This addition of this Vandal will have Max Komar all a-twitter. Has good size and touch. Better than advertised arm and accuracy. Has plenty of talent---needs time and coaching. I still have my eye on Greg McElroy and it's one of the reasons why I wanted to add two extra picks from the Lions---but, I have a feeling that he is going to go earlier than people expect---I could see him going late in the 3rd round or being Carolina's first pick in the 4th round.
179. Shiloh Keo, S, 5-10, 214, Idaho. Played very well in the East-West Shrine game. Plays with great toughness and determination. Will star on STs and make a run for PT in the nickel and dime packages. Fundamental tackler---sniffs the ball out in a flash. Is very smart and aggressive in coverage. A tad undersized which is why he's still available in the 6th round.
